Does a cave beneath Pembroke Castle hold key to fate of early Britons?
“One of the issues that scientists are seeking to resolve is the question of whether or not Neanderthals interbred with Homo sapiens in Britain, as they did in other parts of the world. For good measure, they also want to know if the two species lived alongside each other or whether they replaced each other in successive waves.”

we're a quiet couple with two well-behaved cats looking urgently for an unfurnished bedsit/ground-floor flat/house to rent in the #UK, ideally #Wales. rural or the outskirts of somewhere.
tiny tiny budget but this will improve as we get up and running again, plus we can help with stuff. husband has building skills!
quiet couple with two cats looking for a small, ideally unfurnished house to rent in the uk, preferably wales.
we're currently living in france but struggling and very unhappy; we need to move back for a variety of reasons (of which i'm happy to give details on request).
we both work, although i am disabled. our budget is very small, but my husband has lots of building skills and could help with any kind of renovation / maintenance. and we could help with other things too: we have abilities!
(full disclosure: we are not in a good place financially right now, but france is insanely expensive and has very few opportunities for us both to peddle our wares. we would save a lot of money and be able to earn more were we home again.)
Sore feet after a 12-mile walk this afternoon to a location known as World's End. These three pictures were of the destination, but the stars of the show were cows. Hairy cows. You'd better like cows for the pictures I have to follow 😊
OMG! Did someone mention #auroraborealis ? Photos taken just this evening amid the largest geomagnetic storm for two decades. Long exposure, but all visible to the naked eye also, including the colours
With thanks to @timberwraith for letting me know it was happening. Two hours ago I was heading for bed. Once in a lifetime opportunity. So glad I didn't miss it. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Two upcoming online lectures next Tuesday, 14 May (alas, their times overlap).
Here's the first, sponsored by the Celtic Studies Association of North America: Sarah Waidler (NYU) will speak on ‘Arthur, Authority and the Saints Revisited’ at 12 noon EDT (= 5 pm BST).
A lovely long walk this morning, along the canal and various country roads, to the aqueduct that crosses the valley floor. Felt very spring-like, this May Day, and the trees are rapidly coming into leaf. More pics to follow
Another 10-mile walk. Today, I returned to The Witches Woods. There's something truly wonderful about being deep in woodland, alone. More photos to follow these four..
