A sad day for Canadian art, as St. Anne's Anglican Church in Toronto has had a large fire, destroying much of the artwork inside.

The interior featured artwork by members of the Group of Seven, Frances Loring, Florence Wyle, and other early 20th century Canadian artists.

It had been a bright, colourful space... wish I'd done a tour when I'd had a chance but at least there are glimpses of the art in online tours:

"Your encampment is a threat to the global witch hunt campaign (IHRA) to change the meaning of anti-Semitism (Being against because they are Jews). The campaign attacks you as anti-Semitic because you criticize racist apartheid. The IHRA opposes the wearing of the Kyffeyeh and persecutes all defenders of freedom."

Rose-breasted grosbeak, perhaps one of my favourite birds. Migrating through Toronto, Ontario.

Very distinctive colour with the handkerchief of red under the black head, and contrasting red belly. Almost like it was painted in RGB.

They sit high, on the top of the tree canopy, eating the fresh buds.

Can city council do anything about a police force that has more or less admitted they weren't as interested in impartial justice as they were in getting a particular result or are we just gonna accept that cops are allowed to swing evidence/testimony?

Raccoon Greetings for National High Five Day! This is a portrait of a former neighbour who showed up at my back door like this, to enquire as to where I had moved the compost bin. So I took his photo and made a print.

Toronto belongs to the raccoons. They just let us live here because we have good snacks.

#Toronto drivers are complaining about parking fines increasing to $75 yet look at how penalizing it is for those who can't afford a $3.50 fare.

Why are parking fines not at least this much in this car corrupted city?

Cool, del Toro shares some of his favourite bookstores, including Bakka-Phoenix! Was sad to have to miss @pluralistic's Friday night book tour appearance in the city but I did note on Saturday that Bakka-Phoenix still has a couple signed versions of The Bezzle on the New Hardcovers shelf! https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/guillermo-del-toro-shouts-out-some-of-his-favourite-toronto-bookstores-while-hes-in-town/article_a11ea18a-ea07-11ee-9d55-d7fabc35b99c.html

Finished Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom by @pluralistic. Great fun! I've long admired his non-fiction articles, packed with specifics but beautifully organized so as not to lose the flow. Here, I enjoyed the story but also the deft mechanics, the clockworks of the novel. And the hometown/uni snippets made me chuckle. Then too, I'm an actor trained for stage and this is very much a theatre story. Best first book for me! 😹 #books #Toronto
