intelshill , to World News in Chinese #MeToo journalist jailed for five years

Ironically, if she had used a Chinese hashtag she would've been fine. The state's case hinges on #MeToo being a US-backed movement, just like #Pride.

LGBT and women's rights activists in China are restricted from using foreign iconography and foreign slogans, but not from demonstrating. It's absurd, but altogether a different issue than what the article makes it out to be.

Another storm has hit Denmark after a number of female musicians describe insanely bad, sexualized behavior from male producers and male artists in the music business, in a new tv documentary.

Most appalling is the revelation that successful music producer and tv-maker Martin Brygmann, for decades has been grooming teenage artists in a scheme, which is presented as an exchange of sex for career opportunities.

The documentary is truly stomach turning. 😖

Eliminating 230 would be incredibly reckless under any circumstances, but after the SESTA/FOSTA experience, it's unforgivable. The Big Tech platforms will greet this development by indiscriminately wiping out any kind of controversial speech from marginalized groups (think #MeToo or Black Lives Matter). Meanwhile, the rich and powerful will get a new tool - far more powerful than copyfraud - to make inconvenient speech disappear.

Yprum , to memes in obligatory bear post

I'm so glad to see this posted. The whole meme of bear vs man made me feel at odds and while I saw what the point was that it tried to raise it still didn't really do a great job to me. After a lot of thinking about it and discussing it in other threads I finally understood what I feel is the issue. While the answer given by most (if not all) women is shocking and shows the feeling of uncertainty and unsafeness the question is framed in such a way that it creates division and sexism. The problem is not what women are answering, the issue is that it puts men on the other side without any more thought. It divides us into women vs either men or bears. I'm not a woman, I'm not a bear, and I don't want to be a man seen as a danger. I understand the issue and I want to be part of the solution and create a safer world for everyone.

This whole topic wouldn't have made me see the problem if it wasn't for the effect that other ways to raise awareness have had in the past. For me the greatest method to raise awareness was the #metoo movement. That's when I could see the issue and what kind of effect it has. It was a movement that didn't automatically make me feel excluded, it was a movement that raised awareness of the victims, but it didn't have to be only women, also men that had been victims could raise it if they felt empowered by it. It was horrifying seeing the spread of it, and then there must be all the ones that didn't say anything. That's a movement I can get behind, that's the way to raise awareness. Since then I try to be more aware of the kind of behavior that creates those feelings of unsafeness for women and if I would ever notice something done by others I'd try to step up. The whole man vs bear is terrible at doing the same.

#US / "Get it over quick"

Rep. Tim Walberg is wishing U.S. familes "a happy and most blessed Easter," and to the Palestinians caught in Gaza, he hope Israel would "get it over with quickly," and bomb Gaza ‘like Nagasaki and Hiroshima’

Tim Walberg, a Republican congressman from Michigan, made these comments during a gathering with a small group of his constituents, suggesting that Gaza should be subjected to nuclear bombing like Nagasaki and Hiroshima during World War II.

Walberg argued that the US should not spend money on humanitarian aid in Gaza and instead support Israel, which he referred to as the US's "greatest ally, arguably, anywhere in the world."

His comments have been widely criticized as a call for #genocide

The Political Divide Between Men and Women Is Getting Wild. One Party Is Primed to Take Advantage. ( slate.com )

It has long been the case that American women are generally more liberal than American men. But among young Americans, this gender gap has widened into an enormous rift: According to recent Gallup polling, there is a 30-point differencebetween the number of women age 18–30 who self-identify as liberal and the number of men in...

GIF
maynarkh , to politics in The Political Divide Between Men and Women Is Getting Wild. One Party Is Primed to Take Advantage.

I think it's pretty straightforward why this happens - liberal politics as a hive mind talks to women, but it does not talk to men. Even this piece, look at the following quote.

Actor Johnny Depp sued his ex-wife Amber Heard after she wrote a #MeToo op-ed in the Washington Post; even though the piece didn’t name him, Depp argued that it was defamatory, and legions of his fans (including plenty of women) engaged in a monthslong campaign of vicious harassment, threats, and vilification of Heard and anyone who might stand up for her.

The one case where it was at mutual abuse by both parties, they talk about Depp abusing Heard, but not Heard abusing Depp. That's why there is a divide. The problem is framed as "violence against women", instead of "domestic violence against people".

To be clear, modern society presents all people with new problems. But while generic problems like stagnating wages are being talked about as a generic issue, and women's issues get space as at least a successful special interest issue, issues disproportionately affecting men don't. This results in shitheads like Tate fleecing them and fucking up society at large as well.

(CW: Sexual Assault) Oh my god, did we thought hole Joe Biden being a rapist?

I remember Joe Biden being accused of rape and the woman who did it basically being hushed down. I haven’t seen a single person mention it (recently). Given his age, status, and political beliefs, it seems pretty much guaranteed to be at least somewhat true. How did I forget about this?

JasonDJ , to memes in there's a reason it's "hard out there" you know

This is a problem that I really feel like gets no attention.

With all the focus on women’s rights, young men feel neglected. And modern feminism does imply that men can’t really talk about issues because that comes from a place of privilege.

This isn’t the only time it happened. Male victims of sexual harassment and assault were pretty much entirely shut out of #MeToo.

So, young men feel marginalized and they will listen to whoever makes sense.
