Song Sparrows mostly leave the downtown core for thicker woody spots like Stanley Park, but a few stay to raise families -- like white-crowns, it looks like they're ground nesters, needing only bushes and hedges.
This is a fledgling, just learning to fly. Its parent was nearby, coaxing it from location to location with calls and songs -- Vancouver, May 16
This is not a Song Sparrow, or a Savannah Sparrow. It's a Lincoln's Sparrow! I've only seen them a handful of times, they are shy and secretive little guys, usually avoiding developed areas -- Vancouver, April 26

I was watching this female yellow-rump (in the background) foraging and preening, but the shots weren't great. Then her (presumably) boyfriend just dropped in and gave me a show. I love when that happens.
Incidentally, that's the first time I've seen these guys in the downtown core. Lost Lagoon, yes, a bunch of times, but never even in the seawall parks -- Vancouver, April 24

A Savannah Sparrow (my first of the season!) singing its beautiful soft warbly buzzy song -- Blackie Spit, April 5
