I’m slowly rehabilitating the minis I painted way back in high school. Took photos of the latest ones, Grenadier skeletons. I usually just touch up the paint job, drybrush highlights, and give them a dark wash before sprucing up the base. These I stripped and started over from scratch since I wasn’t satisfied with the job young-me had done.

A crowd of undead skeltons in various bits of armor and helmets with assorted weapons, 25mm fantasy miniatures from Grenadier Dragon Lords box set 2019 Royal Guardsmen of the Undead Legion. A tomb entrance lurks in the wooded background.

I’ve been thinking about “meta-currencies” in roleplaying games – those resources that allow players to interact directly with the mechanisms of a game without really having any reflection in the fictional world. I’ve also been thinking about how often people talk about wanting their games (especially dungeon fantasy games) to have more ways for characters to influence social encounters.

    The "Jaquaysing" VS "Xandering" thing is fascinating as it's a demonstration that language evolves.

    Alexander coined the term to refer to the practice of taking extant dungeons and re-designing them to include design features that originated in Jaquays' work.

    The scene then took the term and changed it to mean including Jaquaysian design principles in the creation of your own dungeon.

    Buying really expensive WotC hardbacks and taking hours to comprehensively re-work every aspect of them is what Alexander does. It is about 60% of his shtick.

    So I propose a compromise: "Xandering" (gerund) the practice of disassembling and reassembling things purchased at great expense when it would have been quicker, easier, and cheaper to build your own thing in the first place.

    And when a lady tells you that you have her name wrong? You change the fucking name.
