I love the headline of Kate Riga's report on Clarence Thomas' lone dissent in the Supreme Court ruling curbing the "right" of a proven domestic abuser to carry arms:

At least, until this Friday."
3 people were killed & 10 wounded in a #MassShooting at a grocery store in #Fordyce, AR Fri.
Of the 10 wounded, 2 were police officers. The shooter, identified as 44-yr-old #TravisEugenePosey, was also wounded & taken into custody.
Posey, a resident of New Edinburg, is expected to be charged w/3 counts of #CapitalMurder, w/additional charges pending, acc/to an #Arkansas State Police news release.

@timo21 it depends because #Bruen says no-ish, #Rahimi says yes-ish. Basically, IMO, this is good because it didn’t rule that domestic abusers have an unfettered right to #guns, but it doesn’t clear up how to devise, apply or enforce any given federal or state #GunRegulation.
A #Texas court found that #Rahimi had “committed family violence” & that such violence was “likely to occur again in the future.” It issued a protective order aka [#RestrainingOrder] that suspended Rahimi’s #GunLicense, prohibited him from having #guns & warned him that possessing a #firearm while the order remained in effect might be a federal #felony.
Rahimi later violated the protective order & was involved in 5 shootings between Dec 2020 & Jan 2021.
The #5thCircuit rejected the historical comparisons that the government offered to justify the #law barring those w/a #RestrainingOrder from possessing #guns.
In this decision, #ClarenceThomas uses the #Bruen “historical parallel” standard. He says that the #DangerousPersons categorization in English law granted individuals the right to bear arms for the purpose of protecting themselves AGAINST dangerous persons, but does not grant the government the right to take guns away from dangerous persons & so it doesn’t apply.

Of the 9 victims of Sat’s #MassShooting at #RochesterHills Brooklands Plaza #SplashPad, 2 survivors were released from hospital, a 37-yr-old woman & 77-yr-old man, while the 7 others remain in hospital. 2 remain in critical condition, including an 8-yr-old boy who was shot in the head, though he appears to be making amazing progress.
The sheriff's office anticipates another victim, a 39-yr-old female w/wounds to her wrist & forearm, will be released later on Mon.
The other critical victim is a 39-yr-old woman who suffered gunshot wounds to her abdomen. A 4-yr-old relative was in stable condition after being shot in the thigh.
Michael William Nash, 42, is accused of #shooting 9 people Saturday evening at the Brooklands Plaza #SplashPad along Auburn Road in #RochesterHills. Police say he opened fire with a 9mm Glock semi-automatic handgun, reloaded, fired & then reloaded a second time, leaving three bullet magazines at the scene.

9 people were injured, including 2 young children & their mother, after a #shooter opened fire at a #SplashPad in a #Detroit suburb.
The #MassShooting happened just after 5PM at a city park featuring a rec area w/nonslip surface where people can turn on sprays & fountains to play. The attack appeared random. The shooter drove up to the park, walked to the splash pad & fired as many as 28X, stopping mult times to reload.
An 8-yr-old boy was shot in the head & in critical condition Sat night, Oakland County Sheriff Bouchard said during a news conference. The boy’s mother also was in critical condition after being wounded in the abdomen & leg, & his 4-yr-old brother was in stable condition w/a leg wound.
The other 6 victims, all 30+, were in stable condition. They included a husband-&-wife couple & a 78-yr-old man.
Sat’s #shooting came at the end of the first full week of summer vacation for students attending Rochester Community schools.
Rochester Hills is about 15 miles (24 km) south of Oxford, where in 2021 a 15-yr-old fatally shot 4 high school students.
“We’ve gone through so many tragedies,” Sheriff Bouchard said. “You know, we’re not even fully comprehending what happened at Oxford. And, you know, now we have another complete tragedy that we’re dealing with.”

The 6-3 ruling invalidates the #ban on bump stocks put in place following the 2017 mass shooting at a music festival in #LasVegas & finds that the #ATF exceed its #authority when it issued the ban in 2018.
In dissent, #SCOTUS Justice Sonia #Sotomayor said the majority’s opinion would have “deadly consequences," adding that the court “hamstrings the government’s efforts to keep machineguns from gunmen like the Las Vegas shooter.”
