Here are a few from a couple of days ago, when it got a bit too dark to take pictures at pne point so I had to use flash (forgive my sins, photography gods)
Face to face with a Wasp Beetle. Although this Wasp-mimicking Longhorn #Beetle looks and moves like the #insect it impersonates, and appears rather fearsome viewed close up and head on, it is harmless. Photographed yesterday at Brandon Marsh.
A couple of macro focus stack tests for the Mint Leaf beetle. So shiny, so green 🤩
The second picture is a stack of 32 individual photos, Though I feel that could do with a bit more refinement in the Helicon Focus app. It's amazing to see how that app stacks them all together though.
Marking these as sensitive because beetles have some pretty creepy mouth parts folks might not want to see.
von meiner heutigen #auwald-runde habe ich für den #insektenSamstag einen kartoffelkäfer mitgebracht, aufgenommen neben einem kartoffelacker, auf dem gerade (gegen ihn?) gespritzt wurde.
Found this on my arm after a run. I'm wondering whether it might be a strawberry clipper (Anthonomus signatus), though most pics show a more pronounced pattern on elytra. It's tiny, maybe 2 mm. Cute, but loathed by growers of strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. #insect#weevil#beetle#coleoptera#entomology#nature#macro#MacroPhotography
Yesterday I was helping a friend in his garden, and saw quite a few ladybugs. We’re told the Asian Lady #Beetle is outcompeting local varieties, but I saw almost as many Western Polished Lady Beetles as ALBs. (The ALBs however were obviously engaged in furthering their success in #Oregon: Content Note for beetle sex!)
I found this beetle on it's back in the middle of a bridleway, waving its legs ineffectually in the air, so flipped it over right-way-up. A minute later and it was on it's back again, looking helpless.
After a few tries, it eventually managed to stay right-way up and marched off across the ground. I think it's a type of dung beetle (maybe Anoplotrupes stercorosus, or dor beetle)...
Check out this cool fact! Back in 1933, #Tatra helped design the prototype for the Tatra V570, a sleek, rear-engined, air-cooled car that was both cheap to build and affordable for everyone. Sound familiar? Well, it should because the Volkswagen #Beetle looked so much like it that in 1965, #Volkswagen had to pay a hefty settlement to Tatra. #CarHistory#DidYouKnow 🚗💡
Here's an Alagastica alni (Alder Leaf Beetle) I spotted today over at RHS Hyde Hall. Bit of a shame the metallic blue colour didn't really show through very well on this shot, but there are hints of it at least.
