Here are a few from a couple of days ago, when it got a bit too dark to take pictures at pne point so I had to use flash (forgive my sins, photography gods)
Face to face with a Wasp Beetle. Although this Wasp-mimicking Longhorn #Beetle looks and moves like the #insect it impersonates, and appears rather fearsome viewed close up and head on, it is harmless. Photographed yesterday at Brandon Marsh.
von meiner heutigen #auwald-runde habe ich für den #insektenSamstag einen kartoffelkäfer mitgebracht, aufgenommen neben einem kartoffelacker, auf dem gerade (gegen ihn?) gespritzt wurde.
Found this on my arm after a run. I'm wondering whether it might be a strawberry clipper (Anthonomus signatus), though most pics show a more pronounced pattern on elytra. It's tiny, maybe 2 mm. Cute, but loathed by growers of strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. #insect#weevil#beetle#coleoptera#entomology#nature#macro#MacroPhotography
Yesterday I was helping a friend in his garden, and saw quite a few ladybugs. We’re told the Asian Lady #Beetle is outcompeting local varieties, but I saw almost as many Western Polished Lady Beetles as ALBs. (The ALBs however were obviously engaged in furthering their success in #Oregon: Content Note for beetle sex!)
I found this beetle on it's back in the middle of a bridleway, waving its legs ineffectually in the air, so flipped it over right-way-up. A minute later and it was on it's back again, looking helpless.
After a few tries, it eventually managed to stay right-way up and marched off across the ground. I think it's a type of dung beetle (maybe Anoplotrupes stercorosus, or dor beetle)...
