Begin photo thread!

Here are a few from a couple of days ago, when it got a bit too dark to take pictures at pne point so I had to use flash (forgive my sins, photography gods)

A small, brown jumping spider with huge, adorable eyes
A dark metallic blue wasp on a plastic wood-imitation plank
A black firefly beetle on tree bark

And here's today's crowning achievement, this beautiful leafhopper. They were very, very small, but their patterns and colors are amazing.

Wenn man einen #Schildkäfer (#Cassida) sieht, ist man neugierig wie bei einem Schotten mit Schottenrock. Man will wissen, wie es darunter aussieht :-). Hier sieht es gut aus😀

Here's a redbud seed weevil (Gibbobruchus mimus) demonstrating its defensive posture. When viewed from afar it looks like caterpillar frass.

Photograph of the same insect but with its head and antennae tucked in close to its body.

Found this on my arm after a run. I'm wondering whether it might be a strawberry clipper (Anthonomus signatus), though most pics show a more pronounced pattern on elytra. It's tiny, maybe 2 mm. Cute, but loathed by growers of strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.

Yesterday I was helping a friend in his garden, and saw quite a few ladybugs. We’re told the Asian Lady is outcompeting local varieties, but I saw almost as many Western Polished Lady Beetles as ALBs. (The ALBs however were obviously engaged in furthering their success in : Content Note for beetle sex!)

Asian lady beetles stacked on each other in a presumed mating. They are on the leaf of what I believe is a stinging nettle. Both have many small black spots on their ripe-tomato red wing-cases, and we get a good look at the little antennaed head each has tucked neatly below the broad shield of the pronotum.

I found this beetle on it's back in the middle of a bridleway, waving its legs ineffectually in the air, so flipped it over right-way-up. A minute later and it was on it's back again, looking helpless.

After a few tries, it eventually managed to stay right-way up and marched off across the ground. I think it's a type of dung beetle (maybe Anoplotrupes stercorosus, or dor beetle)...

Check out this fascinating mint beetle (Chrysolina coerulans). Notice the water drop on its back!
