I'm so fucking tired of the whole "adhd is my superpower 🤘" bullshit.
I mean, I love that for you, but my adhd means I I feel like shit because I didn't remember to eat, I just paid a $25 no-show fee for a doctor appt I forgot I had, and that I haven't called my best friend in almost a month.
Stop demanding I "take the dis out of disability" and carrying on about how labels are harmful when all you wear is shit with "ADHD SUPERHERO" stamped across it.
(1/)Juneteenth? That’s a great excuse to help me out! I paid my phone bill before my loan payment come out. I MEANT to take the money out again and use it for my phone. It’s a lot, about $160 so anything is welcome. anything more is needed for food 🙏🏾🥹
Since I'm trying to become a bit more active again, I guess an introduction is in order again.
I'm a vaguely queer AuDHD with mental health issues on the side, mainly anxiety and depression. An ex-working person and an ex-activist/volunteer currently on disability.
After dropping off the face of the planet into a deep depression, I've started to claw myself back among the living, yet again, and recently started volunteering with ND peer support leading peer support group meetings for the local ND org. I'm hoping to build connections to my peers here too and maybe finally find some semblance of my place in the world.
Terrified about my visit to the brain doctor tomorrow. This will be the first time since I sent him the therapist's report and the first time since he said he wanted to sign me off back to my doctor.
Will he look into an ADHD diagnosis as the therapist has recommended? Will he just be annoyed that I am wasting his time?
I am on tablets for people with Bipolar but he's never said I have that.
My mood swings vary from daily to weeks. I'm just confused.
With full permission, this is the eldest’s Spotify feed history recently.
I mean, I’d like to say we’ve all been there but this might just be us. #adhd#autism
The worm that ate #RFKjr's #brain killed itself because it couldn't stand to listen to anymore insane rants about how #vaccines cause #autism. It was looking forward to consuming the rest of #Kennedy's brain, but the thought of one more diatribe was just too much. R.I.P. BrainWorm! 🧠🪱🪦
Morning🫡 I'm trying to raise about $80 to buy enough groceries to last me until the next disability check day Any donations are appreciated. Boosting is needed as well. Thank you so much💞
I’ve been rewatching DS9, and most of the episodes still hold up. But Season 6 Episode 9: Statistical Probabilities reads differently now that I know more about Autism (but definitely not an expert).
The episode centers around Bashir trying to help a group of “genetically enhanced” people who don’t “pass” as well as he does. So they are effectively portraying different autistic traits.
I’m curious what others with more first hand autistic experience think of it.
Question for everyone, because I have no idea whether this is a neurodivergent thing or just a common human thing. Boost for reach and indicate whether or not you're neurodivergent, and if so, which variety/varieties.
Do any other non-musicians get obsessed with a song/tune? I am not talking about involuntary earworms, I am talking about falling in love with a piece and thinking about it often and wanting to listen to it quite frequently.
My relevant neurodivergence is ADHD and Tourette syndrome.
I’ve been reading about “stimming in autism”, which up until now was very confusing to me mostly because that’s the one point kept being repeated in the community being a must for an autistic individual. And I can’t relate to that at all.
Then I came across something that describes the purpose of ‘stimming’ is to deal with extra energy. Then it kinda hit me, I’ve never had the need to stim because I’m a low energy person in general.
I get overwhelmed with activities when they involve raising heart rates (yes, THAT too). I like quiet things, dead of night etc. Once at a time in my life, I was pretty sure I could hear flow of electricity.
So my question to the #ActuallyAutistic community: do you think stimming is a must for autistic people? Do you relate to it? Anyone know of any low energy stimming that gets overlooked?
Gran: “He’s never done any of it in a malicious way. Why didn’t the school system put in more filters, or firewalls, to prevent children from getting into that?”
County Spokesperson: "Threats to over 100,000 students’ safety, including hacking, will be met with the full force of the law and applicable District policy."
Book review #27 for 2024 is Steve Silberman's Neurotribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity. A helpful and informative book on the unfolding journey of and...battles with/for, regarding people who interact with their world differently. I found this book to be helpful in understanding the rise of what we today call neurodiversity. ☕☕☕☕1/2 review. @stevesilberman@books@bookstodon@bookstodon#autism#neurodiversity#books#books2024 #
Tweet shared to the FB group Feral Neurodivergent Raging Meme Posting and now here with you. I’ve been down and this was the first thing that made me laugh today. I hope it makes you laugh too. #actuallyautistic#autism#autistic
Or, an autistic who isn't afraid and/or shy to share that they are actually autistic?
Or, an autistic person who is active in the autism acceptance “movement” (if we can call it that)?
Or, perhaps, an autistic who were interviewed and disclosed they're autistic?
Maybe you have other considerations or criteria that defines “openly autistic” for you?
NOTE: Being openly autistic is a choice and is not for everyone. I think it is safe to say that we all face discrimination, stereotyping, and prejudice for being actually autistics, thus, most choose not to be open about it.
However, recently, there has been a slow growth in numbers of openly autistics, and like with most things in life, we have different criteria, definitions, and cultural considerations.
Thus, I am curious what you think, personally or maybe your immediate environment or organisation, is an openly autistic person. Or, when do you consider one as openly autistic.
Again, this is not about if an autistic person should be openly autistic or not. ^_^
