I think a lot of the draw honestly comes from re-living old memories people have around playing these games (like staying up late in order to beat that one boss in Super Mario or whatever), which obviously is difficult if you never did so in the past.
To a certain extent, yes, these games ARE a chore (all games are in a way - the point is almost always having to practice in order to get good enough to beat them). A well designed game just keeps your hooked with its storytelling and well timed rewards long enough not to toss it aside in frustration.
But if it gets too frustrating because the payout just doesn't seem to be there, I'd say don't try to force it. Get a Switch and play the modern version of the classics, but with newer, fancier graphics, maybe that helps.
I'm going to go against what others are saying and advise against the raspberry pi. If you are serious about ps2, ps3 and gamecube, the pi will struggle with more games than it runs well. Especially for ps3, you'll want at least a 4c/8t CPU, preferably no more than 5 years old, anything less will struggle.
These emulator box things usually have very poor quality prehaps the evercade might peak your interest and its only a little bit more or a raspberry pi
I hear people are trying to get "AIs" to make games. I hope they're all trained on this 😈
(That's what I thought of, reading "technological future of crap." The article itself seems to just be a typical review for that game, which is indeed among the hottest of garbages.)
I think you're misunderstanding, this isn't a raspberry Pi type emulation device, this is a hardware clone of the chips in a real GBC, it even plays the original cartridges, and also flashcarts (well mostly, there's a few kinks there because it's new).
I'm talking about software, not hardware. The pocket is magic because it's open an developers can do whatever they want to it, and there's a bunch of devs supporting it. This device is open source, but is just a fancy GBC, and the review pointed out that it's a bit rough around the edges still.
I get that. But at the same time speed running is stale as a concept. I feel like it's just the nature of the genre since there's only so much you can talk about. I love speed running but I could never watch someone stream it for hours on end.
Edit: This was meant as a response to another comment but I goofed. I do love this video. Oops lol
