So Post News is the first post-Twitter casualty, but it won't be the last. I think it's clear that in terms of for profit microblogging, Twitter and Threads are going to be the ones to survive (I have zero confidence in the long term viability of such services as Cohost, Hive Social, Spoutible, and even Blue Sky). While I realize that and the aren't free, they aren't beholden to same market forces as the others and I feel they will continue to endure.

@Tim_Eagon Yep. I keep finding Blue Sky to have an awful interface (and often takes too long to load). And I don't think Mastodon has anywhere like enough users.

@MerricB More people here would be nice, but I never have a shortage of conversation or things to read when I visit.

@Tim_Eagon Threads still exists? I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention Threads since the day it debuted, but I don't have a Facebook account. I just don't see why anyone would use it over Instagram.

@cass Yeah, and it's been picking up steam with the addition of Joe Biden and Taylor Swift in the last week. It's still much smaller than Twitter, but it dwarfs all the other commercial Twitter alternatives combined.

@Tim_Eagon we'll see. It'll be interesting as all these services start trying to find ways to monetize. BlueSky has been pretty lively, though not as active as Twitter in its heyday.

@MrF The publicly available stats say otherwise 😀. In any case, if a for profit social media service can't articulate how it's going to make money, it ain't long for this world (not with 7-8% interest rates). I may hate Meta as a company, but I know how they're going to monetize Threads.
