@PeterMotte a dialogue becomes a lot more interesting if you present a well-founded argument, instead of just stating, “I do not like what you are saying”.
@randahl they killled over a thousand Israeli civilians in plainclothes. How do you approve that Israel fight cowards like that because nothing has worked so far. Hamas COULD just surrender and release their HOSTAGES. Hold both sides to the same standards.
@randahl false dichotomies don’t add anything intelligent to the conversation, and just reek of bias/alienate any reader seeking facts. It’s a shame, becuase the facts in this case are pretty damning of Israel—facts that the world leaders have all been reeling over. Rules of war make any object with military troops a target, Hamas has made hospitals targets. Amnesty international issues a report when Ukraine defends itself from an unoccupied kidnergarten, calls it a war crime,is silent on Hamas
@randahl There is obviously a huge difference for various reasons (coordination, the fact these are people there by choice for humanitarian reasons, etc.). Even if both are terrible.
If you use every opportunity to accuse people of racism (where this would ve nationalism, not racisn) your words loose meaning and nobody will take you serious when there's real racisk going on
@randahl You're right, but if this attack on aid workers succeeds in cutting off Israel's ability to continue, I'll take it. The important thing is getting the killing to stop.
@randahl
Is it just me, or does this seem like this was the plan all along? Hamas as the instigators and Palestinians as sacrificial lambs for Iran and other anti-Israel and anti-western actors?
@randahl would you say the same when Hamas kidnaps, rapes and kills Israelis. Wishes death to all Jews? Or do you find it when Palestinians harass Israelis/Jews in racist manners, harasses Israelis while at restaurant eating with their families?
@randahl
This seems like an inaccurate portrayal of the situation: not only did most of Europe's leadership condemn the level of violence against civilians and demand a ceasefire, two other countries which had similar apartheid situations, South Africa and Ireland, filed a lawsuit in the international courts about it.
The aid workers killed has not substantially changed the international response, only pulled a few more people off the fence and intensified scrutiny.
@Raccoon I agree. What I wrote above is obviously a simplification of reality, and you are right that in some countries, Israel is criticized.
I just do not see any hard actions against Israel — only words.
My country Denmark continues to trade weapons with Israel in midst of the killing of civilians. I know Canada has paused their arms trade, but the US and many other countries have not.
@randahl The situation in #Gaza is tragic, but after #Hamas (who was elected to power) attacked #Israel 🇮🇱 on October 7th, 2023, they committed the whole area to the blowback of war.
Hamas is (to put it bluntly) a genocidal organization that needs to be removed from power.
@darnell@randahl I’m asking you because your point about them being “elected” in 2006 is completely irrelevant to your argument in support of genocide.
@Dinger@randahl Hamas being elected makes them the governmental power of Gaza. That is an important fact that only the willfully ignorant would ignore.
It was the same when Nazis were elected in Germany 🇩🇪. Why would you overlook that‽
@darnell let me try to understand your view, Darnell: So you are saying, that because 44 percent of Palestinians voted for Hamas in 2006, and Hamas then killed democracy and turned Gaza into a military dictatorship, all the children who were born after 2006 can still be held accountable for a poor choice which less than half of their parents made?
Do correct me, if I have misunderstood your point of view.
Let's not forget Hamas was literally funded by the Israelis to overthrow much more peace-oriented (althout failing in its own right) organisation that was Al Fatah just to get a justification of policing Palestinians.
If #Israel will bomb a convoy of vehicles with #WorldCentralKitchen logos visible from every conceivable angle during movements they coordinated with the #IDF & whose only crime was to feed people in #Gaza who'd otherwise starve, imagine what they're doing to everyone else there.
It wasn't that long ago that they killed one of the Israeli hostages that managed to escape from #HAMAS.
@randahl I was actually expecting a reaction along the lines of: "Gee, six international aid workers were killed, but since one of them was a Palestinian, they're collateral."
