You can be against cannabis, and you can be against alcohol. For the same reasons. I'm not sure I agree, but there are reasonable arguments to make.
What is nonsensical is to be against cannabis and okay with alcohol. Other than some social conventions, of the two substances, alcohol does far more damage and is in most cases far more addictive.
@randahl notllegalized, for, as long as all the restrictions for tobacco apply to weed as well (i.e. no exposing unwilling participants to the stink, guess warning labels won't hurt either)
@randahl
I care not that much about it as a German, but I have the feeling the way it got somewhat legalized is a clusterfuck. (seriously, having clubs with registered members as only source of cannabis next to self grown 3 plants is really odd)
@randahl I am extremely against cannabis. We should desire less of it, not more. But I like freedom, so I'm for legalising it and all other drugs, as long as people are aware of the dangers.
@randahl
Electronic cigarettes were supposed to reduce the consumption of "real" cigarettes and tobacco.
Well, not only it didn't, but then people who never considered smoking before that started smoking these things. Including youngsters.
Conclusion: it totally missed the initial intent.
I can't see any reason it would turn out differently with legalized recreational cannabis.
@randahl Heh. I grew up as a hippy child in the Himalayas. We used to roll our own hash from the plants that grew wild on the hillsides. <grin> That said, I've not indulged now in decades. But many fond memories of laying in the warm sun on the hillside looking up at the pines in happy hippy mode. :)
@randahl Canada has legalized cannabis. What was once one of British Columbia's biggest businesses is now widely available but no longer profitable. I suspect that this may be due to the number of police officers who decided to enter the business. I do not use it myself and have never tried it. And apparently secondhand smoke from pot is not intoxicating. It is widely known here as skunk and for good reason.
@randahl Clarifying my vote for the top option, the USA has not legalized it, but I'd say about half the states have, including all of the West Coast, CA, OR, WA.
