If the Supreme Court tosses out the "obstructing an official procedure" charges for Jan. 6 is that not an invitation to obstruct all of their official procedures forever so they can't make any more rulings?

@futurebird

Works for me 😁

Romance Writers of America (RWA) is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, in part because of years of controversy surrounding race and inclusion. The trade association was founded by a Black woman in 1980 but became progressively whiter and less supportive of Black writers, awarded controversial books and in 2005, polled members on if romance should be defined as between one man and one woman. Despite all this, romance itself is thriving — it's the highest-earning fiction genre and sales are climbing. NBC took a look at what went wrong at the RWA. We want to know: What genres of book do you read (choose as many options as you like)? And if you're a writer, tell us about your work in the comments!

I write fantasy adventures. There's usually a romantic subplot, though often polyamory, so not your standard romance. 😄

Germany today legalized cannabis for private recreational use.

Has your state legalized cannabis and are you for or against it?

@randahl

My country hasn't. My state has. 😊

Am I the only one who finds the republicans in the house quitting a little ... ominous?

What is about to go down that the rats are fleeing the ship?

(with apologies to actual rats)

@futurebird

I thought these were a few who hated the direction their party was going but lacked power to change things except by quitting, which could result in Democrats getting a majority. The timing of the resignations prohibits their districts from being able to hold early votes to replace them. I was taking this as a hopeful sign. Maybe I'm just a habitual optimist. Or maybe things have been so dismal I'll grasp at any scrap of hope. 😁

What are your thoughts on DNF (Did Not Finish)-ing books? Do you feel guilty about it? Do you worry you missed out on something? Or are you confident in dropping a book and reaching for the next one?

At what point are you most likely to DNF, if ever? What sorts of things cause you to DNF?

My friend, book blogger Kriti, was musing on these questions a while back, and it sparked this new post: https://armedwithabook.com/dealing-with-dnf-the-practice-of-did-not-finish/

@skaeth

I used to always finish books, regardless, even if my mind wandered and I couldn't tell you the plot. In the last few years, I'm more about "life is too short." If a book doesn't catch my interest--and I'll give it a few chapters--I put it down, saying I'll read more later, and then often never do. 🤷‍♀️

I need your help #bookstodon. One of the classes I'm taking at the graduate level this semester is Religion & Science Fiction. I read more fantasy, and would like to do my research paper on something that's not obvious (like ST/BS5/Matrix/etc.) & I'd love to use more modern sf rather than the golden age classics.

Anyone have any interesting ideas for my research paper on regarding the intersection of religion and science fiction?

The Expanse also has a POV character who's a minister.
