A second republican, Mike Gallagher, has decided he will not complete his term or seek reelection. Given the narrow majority republicans hold this must be alarming.

It makes me wonder what exactly is going on with the conference? What were they asked to do? There is the chaos with the budget... but I'm thinking about what sort of plans are being laid for November.

Gallagher is a conservative and I don't agree with much of what he's said. But he was very rational in his response to Jan. 6.

@futurebird it feels like a mass exodus.

Some replies here are saying it’s, “i can make more money elsewhere”, but no, if that were the case they’d be staying through the end of their term.

this feels like, “i can’t take a single minute more of this madness”. Mass exodus.

Oh, plans are being laid all right. Red states have been getting magas onto election boards and into control of election offices, ready to refuse to certify results if Biden wins their state -- or worse. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/election-deniers-refuse-certify-chaos-2024-1234988747/

Red state legislatures are continuing to work on expanding their control over their states' elections. Fortunately a recent attempt to wrest control in NC failed thanks to the Judicial branch. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/north-carolina-judges-block-elections-board-changes-pushed-by-republicans-that-weaken-governor/ar-BB1jLnXA

The idea is for enough states where Biden wins to either not certify his win or delay long enough, or maybe even certify Trump instead, to keep Biden from getting to 270 electoral votes. That will throw the decision on who wins the election to the US House of Representatives.

So Republicans in the House need to weed out any of their caucus who will not go along with overriding the will of the people to install Trump as POTUS.

A failed coup is a training exercise. They've learned lessons and are working on their new coup plot from all angles and top to bottom.

I would resign from a job where customers send me and my family death threats if the CEO says one thing I did was slightly out of pocket.

@futurebird are you thinking that they don't want to be involved with another coup attempt ?

@futurebird They might be thinking that if they stay in they’re going to be primaried by some nut job magat. If they make a clean break now and hopefully the maga cult breaks up in a few years, they’ll have a way back into the gop and not have to answer for crazy votes they’re expected to cast by their leadership right now.

@futurebird I'm afraid that the extremists have decided that they don't need what they call RINOs and are running them out. They don't need a majority if we don't have a democracy.

@futurebird Gallagher refused to vote for the sham impeachment of Mayorkas. I have a feeling that the blowback from that had a big impact.

@futurebird my hope is they’re all just sort of sick of having to work with their peers and deciding they can have more fun and make more money elsewhere.
