Update from Ft. Pierce: Judge #Cannon did not set a trial date for the classified documents case during the morning session of the scheduling conference.
But she told prosecutors for the special counsel that their proposed July trial date is “unrealistic.”
Boy, I'd love for Cannon to maneuver for the docs trial to fall within the safety window before an election, and then have the DOJ go ahead and drop the election stand-down policy as being more interfering in the election than actually proceeding with the trial.
And from that point, put Trump on trial, so that he's in the docket, on election day.
The point being, the policy of not prosecuting preceding an election is being grossly abused by Trump, and serves justice worse than no policy at all.
It's not over yet. We aren't at the climax yet. It will get worse. Then it will get better.
There are reasonable Americans in seven states who want freedom of religion, IVF and health care choices, freedom of the press, a halt in Gaza, aid to Ukraine, and four years without daily drama.
@GottaLaff
I cannon going to try and block any chance Georgia will go before the election by filling the Sep/Oct trial dates, and sliding to after the election?
Here’s the big news, though: The special counsel’s office explicitly took the position that what’s known as the “60-day rule”—a policy in which the Justice Department avoids taking investigative steps close to an election—does NOT APPLY to cases that have already been charged.
In other words: The special counsel doesn’t think the “60-day” policy would preclude a potential Trump trial in the run-up to the November election.

She is so obviously in the bag for Trump. Jack has to prove his case not beyond a reasonable doubt, but beyond any shred of a shadow of doubt.
@GottaLaff
Yes, the documents case should be the easiest to prove. It has multiple defendants and a judge with neither enthusiasm nor experience.
At this point Jack #Smith should stop pushing for a trial and simply make sure that Judge #Cannon cannot schedule something to interfere with the #Jan6 case.
@GottaLaff You know those "where are they now?" clickbait stories that show former movie stars or pop idols who now are disheveled, fifty pounds overweight, and working as a bagger at SavMart? I'm fully expecting to see Judge Cannon that way someday.
Trump's lawyers and special counsel Jack Smith’s team are at odds over how much about their personal politics potential jurors have to disclose on a questionnaire for the classified documents case.
@GottaLaff Trump wants to blackmail the state, intimidate witnesses in true mob boss style. Smith has already had Cannon in front of the 11th circuit over this due to her apparent inability to understand this. I hope she gets removed.
@GottaLaff that’s what I heard Merrick Garland say several weeks ago, so I’m very very happy to hear it said in court. #OLCNullAndVoid after charges are brought.
Quotes there from former federal prosecutors amount to the following summary quote in the article:
"The Justice Department has no policy, written or unwritten, forbidding an ALREADY INDICTED candidate from being put on trial close to an Election Day."
@GottaLaff Why do they give this thing such stature... they should be far more concerned about what happens if they don't get him before he wins (I use the term loosely here)...
