The Manhattan DA's Office has agreed with #Trump's request to postpone his criminal sentencing so that Judge Merchan can weigh whether the #SCOTUS immunity ruling might impact his conviction.
Partner & I have been taking a break from drinking. Helps with the diet. But the summer is starting to get pretty hot and we were planning to crack some IPAs when Trump got sentenced.
@pcyx@GottaLaff He signed a couple of checks while in the Oval Office. That's it, and it won't be enough to make him immune (though it may be enough to allow his lawyers to appeal yet again and delay his sentencing even further).
The more legitimate and interesting argument is whether the immunity decision affects what extrinsic aggravating/mitigating factors (including other crimes and bad behavior) the judge may consider when imposing sentence.
Hate to break it to you, but your democracy is being dismantled as we speak. Lousy con artist with the help of six fanatics in black robes are ending the the American Experiment. All to the cheers of russian bots on X, owned by Apartheied Clyde, who is also one of the architects of your collapse.
In my life I have never seen the amount of coddling of someone who contributes nothing and has done worse harm to America than all the terrorists on the planet. The justice system starting with the DOJ down to the lowliest judge has lubed and spread it's own ass and spread for the shit that Trump is.
May the Milky Way help us!
There are people serving life for pot in this just nation of ours.
In response, the Manhattan DA's Office said that by asking for July 10th as the date to file his motion, Trump is necessarily seeking an adjournment of the July 11th sentencing date.
The DA's letter further notes that although it does not think that Trump's motion has any merit, it does not object to the time sought by Trump and asks to have until July 24th to be able to file and serve a response to Trump's motion.
@GottaLaff
I would have said no. He doesn't get to claim official acts for stuff before he was president, and not for anything involving stuff when he was out of office, regardless of date.
@GottaLaff I get it but I hope this just really makes Merchan mad enough to throw the book at him in sentencing. I know it won’t because Merchan is a careful judge who takes his job seriously, but that fantasy gives me some comfort.
@GottaLaff
I’m guessing (ha ha) it won’t, but it is consistent with Merchan’s careful approach so that the conviction won’t get overturned on appeal.
The delay sucks, never the less.
@stevejohnson42@GottaLaff Exactly. Trump will say whatever he needs to say to avoid accountability. Trump is pathological. Trump is a criminal. Trump is a convicted felon.
Trump thinks it's all about him, but he is just the useful idiot of the Heritage Foundation and their evil coup minions. He's too lazy to actually do anything himself except yell about how the world has been so unfair to him. He surrounds himself with loyalists and pseudo loyalists with their own agendas who use him to get what they want. He is an evil, charismatic figure that can inspire the MAGA mobs, a puppet useful to the RW fascists.
