The most amazing thing just happened to me. I slept the whole night and did not need to take any sleeping pills. I thought there was going to be some kind of extended fight with my brain to start sleeping unaided, but no. THE FIRST NIGHT I was unemployed.

Less stress, more yield. For you, not IBM.

@jerry Congrats!

Next you'll discover how much easier life is when you regularly get good sleep. It does wonders for mental and physical health. ✨

@jerry I think it’s a shitty thing that’s happened to you. You shared your story with wit and pathos and I’ve enjoyed it and taken inspiration from it. I was terminated and spent two months driving around Australia with my Australian wife of then 2 years. A thing I could have never done while employed. Im sure you’ll find the time off to do your own thing. If a coffee table book full of photos of every last orchid on the planet should get published, I’ll buy a copy, display it proudly, and tell its story. When I got home from Australia a job practically materialized out of thin air that I’m enjoying still. I see the same for you , too.

Good luck. Enjoy yourself.

@jerry
i wish i could tell everyone. there is so much unnecessary bullshit, and the things you feel aren't your fault. we tolerate a culture of abuse in corpland, but we don't ever let it be called that

i came to realize that the difference between wasting your life on some MBAs pointless whims and hacking off your own flesh to feed your family is less than you'd think... except that you're doing it to your heart, soul, and mind.

@jerry say it loud and say it proud: BULLSHIT JOBS KILL PEOPLE

(...slowly, like alcohol addiction)

jerry OP ,
@jerry@infosec.exchange avatar

@gibeath that job was unquestionably killing me. I was exchanging years of my life for cash.

@jerry HAHAHAHA JINX. Good news: after about 3 months I found myself enjoying things again I hadn't been able to in decades. you might literally rediscover yourself

jerry OP ,
@jerry@infosec.exchange avatar

@gibeath I already feel it happening. It’s amazing.

@jerry like a walkabout to me... quoting B5 -

The theory is: if you are separated from yourself, you start walking and you keep walking until you meet yourself. Then you sit down and have a long talk. You talk about everything that you've learned, everything that you .. felt. And you talk until you run out of words. Now, that's vital, because the real important things can't be said. And then, if you are lucky, you look up and there's just you, and you can go home.

@jerry I’m so happy for you! ❤️ That must be an amazing feeling, especially when you talked previously about how you needed the meds to be able to sleep.

Leaving a place where you have established roots is hard, but I know you will find so much joy in the things around you and the plans that you have made.

I look forward to your continued orchid pics (the shots you shared last night of all of the flowers were beautiful!), kitty pics, and wish you continued happiness in the life you lead. ❤️

@jerry I vaguely remember sleeping through the night. It was years ago. Please let us infosec people know how it was.

@jerry it gets better. You don't really realize how much stress you were under until you're not anymore.

@jerry

As a non-techie, bewildered, ex-twitterer from the 2022 exodus, I'd like to thank you for your calm, welcoming guidence back then. I had no idea the pressure you were operating under at first but you took the time to be kind and helpful.

May you wake up delighted for ever more.
