Guys with 20 followers harassing Wolven for getting off Mastodon because “you should have to read my replies or else you are oppressing me, because I don’t have the social power of your follower count” this is goofy as hell and people like that are why I have notifications turned off from people I don’t follow 🙂
People should be allowed to make posts that cannot be replied to
People should be allowed to make posts that only some people can reply to
All other social media that I know of does this, this is just as important as properly working content warnings IMO. Totally bonkers that not only is this not basic functionality, apparently a bunch of people don’t even want users to have control over who interacts with them. Why not? That seems extremely on brand
@sidereal "what can be done to make the fediverse safer for black people?" honestly "being able to limit who can reply to you" would get us over halfway there
@sidereal when I first came here there was all this discourse about quote toots and how it makes things less safe and search and about how it makes things less safe when there's plenty of reasons why both of things are also just useful and mostly not used for abusive purposes but there's absolutely no way to keep some random concern troll away from your replies. like there's no reason to not allow people to control who replies to them that's not just "I ❤️ Reply Guys"
@sidereal so I took a quick dig into this, and what I found was this, which is on the "roadmap," a thing which contains no links or anything else that might indicate work done or lack thereof. https://github.com/mastodon/joinmastodon/blob/main/data/linear.json#L400 . There's not even an obvious indication of how people might help out with anything on that roadmap.
