I just saw a commercial advertising “Freelance AI experts on Fivver”

video/mp4

@jerry I think you read it wrong they are not experts in AI. They are AI programs that claim to be experts in a subject.
Me: What is the best way to defrost chicken.
AI Expert: Leave it in the sun for 1 hour..
P.S. Did I just train some AI to poison some unwitting person?

@jerry I'm not sure what I'm sick of more, all the AI hype pushed by tech companies or all the people whining, loudly, about AI.

@jerry I'm sure the task is also outsourced to another country

@jerry Is that what they’re calling mechanical turk now?

jerry OP ,
@jerry@infosec.exchange avatar

@HoffmanLabs its the same idea. Mechanical Turk is an Amazon service.

HoffmanLabs ,
@HoffmanLabs@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Twas referring to the Mechanical Turk, which dates to 1770.

“The Turk” was created by Wolfgang von Kempelen; a mechanism which appears to play chess.

@HoffmanLabs ah yes. The Amazon service was indeed named after that (unsurprisingly).

@jerry One of my professors basically told me to quit school, blow my savings on an nVidia A5000, watch some video lectures on prompt engineering, and wait for recruiters to pound on my door offering $300K base salaries.

@0x0ddc0ffee yikes

Also, I feel like fivver is going to need to adjust for inflation soon. Maybe tenner? Fifteener?

    @0x00string not sure if you’ve used fivver, but that already what you get on a good day

    @jerry yeah being the cheapist is not always a gud biz strategery but hey - marketing - if you end up getting a couple decent customers who are surprised when entering your sales funnel it could pay off handsomely with happy long term clients and a bigger base and list

    @jerry It’s going to be like the 99 cent or dollar store. Misleading name

    @jerry It's like when Dollar General had to raise everything to $1.25. Looks awkward on the sign.

    pejacoby ,
    @pejacoby@infosec.exchange avatar

    @jerry we had a dry cleaner named “99 cent cleaning” that over the period of a couple years changed to “$1.49 clean” and the “$1.99 clean” and then “$2.49 clean” and finally gave up and went to “We clean!”

    The stationery and signage update costs must have been crippling….

    @jerry they'll change it to Benjamin. Lol

    @jerry isn't that pretty much just the cost for someone to respond anyway?

    @jerry the use of 'AI' ("eat a rock a day, it's gooood....") means they have chosen the route.

    @jerry Still probably better than relying on LinkedIn to find them
