One thing I did not mention about this morning's outage was how absolutely amazing it was to be able to connect to and manage the server through its IPMI interface. I think I am sold on getting rid of the non-Dell servers after that.

@jerry the status page never reported any issues, what does that page track exactly?

@jerry yeah it was mad weird, i was getting http responses, mostly 503, and sometimes the sad elephant error page like the 404 one, but otherwise was just down, no stream, no login, etc. but the status page was green, i checked a couple of the other services in network i use and they were up, including ones that use mastodon for the auth like the uhhhhh chat one i think? synapse or whatever? they were working.

i figured something was just borked and said a little hymn of luck for you then went back to sleep lol.

i install adblockers on every computer i use, i don't care if its a travel kiosk at a hotel im putting adblockers on it. "honey will you look at my computer?" adblocker. visiting your house and your screen isnt locked? adblocker. LCD advertising roadside display? adblocker. everywhere, always, all the time.
