I just saw a commercial advertising “Freelance AI experts on Fivver”

@jerry Is that what they’re calling mechanical turk now?

HoffmanLabs ,

@jerry Twas referring to the Mechanical Turk, which dates to 1770.

“The Turk” was created by Wolfgang von Kempelen; a mechanism which appears to play chess.

Walking into a RadioShack, it was common for all the unattached sales reps on the floor to immediately swivel and target-acquire the newest store entrant.

Experienced customers knew to deploy the magic attachment-repellent word “parts”.

I still miss those parts racks.

Though McMaster-Carr does well.

I find it interesting that around 90% of spam account signups on Infosec.exchange use a gmail address to register. Now, that’s partly biased because I’ve blocked most of the junk email services that allow creating email addresses without needing to sign in or register, so I don’t know what it would look like if those were permitted, however it must be quite efficient for people to create large numbers of gmail accounts.

@jerry Google Groups was swimming in their own self-hosted spam, and was flooding targeted Usenet groups.

Rather than fixing their spam problem, Google de-peered from Usenet.

Groups remains deluged.

Probably all still getting indexed into Google Search, too.

I wonder how many security programs are designed around meeting the expectation of auditors, vs designed to protect the environment which is then inspected by auditors 🤔

@jerry Most of us with a few years in the racket have stories.

Had one trying to use an old UNIX security checklist on a not-UNIX platforms, and then demanded a copy of the password database. Yeah, no.

Time to set your Palo firewalls on fire: https://security.paloaltonetworks.com/CVE-2024-3400

@jerry Makes me want to keep a second warm- or hot standby firewall ready for a full vendor failover from a different vendor, but too many of the vendors have been exploited in parallel lately.

As of right this second I need to start a band with two other people so we can use this as the greatest album cover ever

@ElleGray One of my photos from a while back. Not sure when their album will premiere, though.
