I have never met a black person, who accused me of racism, if we disagreed.

I have never met an Asian person who called me racist, if we disagreed.

But surprisingly often, when I disagree with an Israeli about Gaza, no matter which argument I present, the reply is, "This is antisemitism!".

I wonder what upbringing it takes, to make a child believe, that if someone has a different view than you, they must be bad people.

What a dangerous mindset to pass on to future generations.

@randahl I’m an Ashkenazi Jew by blood. I have family that survived the nazis. Given what they went through I’ll never understand how any Jew could endorse what’s happening in Palestine. It’s horrific. And opposing it is absolutely unequivocally NOT anti-Semitic.

@randahl

Or maybe, just maybe, you are not bigoted against most groups, but you are against Jews. In which case you should actuality listen.

Some of the most bigoted people are those who cannot imagine they are bigots.

Can you show us any examples of you being unfairly accused of antisemitism?

@randahl It disturbs me greatly that a group of Jews descended from horrific WWII persecution could so easily emulate it by deciding to wipe away Gaza, everyone, not just Hamas, with so little regard for collateral damage. A loss of perspective that puts them in great risk of more conflict in their future.
Unless they plan on killing everyone, they’ve created a few more generations of Arabs who hate them. 😪

@randahl i think, if people belonging to a group i regularily 'critisize' regularily call me out on being biased against them, it would be a good step to question myself "might they be right?"
Also, complaining about the fact you're regularily called antisemitic by jews, connecting it with a supposed kind of upbringing, isn't this a little bit... i dunno... antisemitic? (I am NOT a jew btw...)

@randahl Black people on the Internet constantly call non-black people racist to their faces, usually fairly, occasionally not. Maybe from your place in Jutland, you've never had socially equal interactions with nonwhites. So Jews are the only minority you have socially equal interactions with, and when we accuse you of anti-Semitism (of which you seem pretty guilty judging by your agreeing with the "Palestinians are Semites too" troll), you're not used to it.

@randahl I’d be conscious of group blaming or someone reading into that happening. When saying things about Israelis as a whole doing something terrible or stating Jewish safety worldwide is threatened because these sorts of things are read as antisemitic and threatening. Jews in America got nothing to do with decisions made by Netanyahu and the Israeli military nor the extremist factions of Israel. Israel additionally has just as crazy politics as any DEMOCRACY and the vast majority of Israelis do not approve of Netanyahu and his placating to the extremist minorities.
Additionally, there’s a lot of language from European traditions that is built upon antisemitism. It can be difficult to see it if you grew up with figures of speech being used in ways unrelated to their origins.

@randahl Your view seems very, very distorted. I've witnessed so many discussions (some but not most of which I actively participated in) where critics of russian imperialism were accused of russophobia, critics of Chinese mass surveillance were accused of sinophobia, critics of Assad's chemical warfare were accused of racism, critics of Iran's oppression were accused of islamophobia etc.

Denying all of that and instead focusing on false antisemitism accusations does not improve the situation.

@randahl

I think you are a very lucky person in terms of the kind of people you meet or see in your daily life

I myself have seen other experiences with people who immediately pull the racism card, and I have also seen numerous examples in the media or on life television of the opposite of what you apparently experience 🤷🏻‍♀️

@randahl a fundamental point, when it comes to any form of discrimination, it only applies to individuals and groups of people and never ever a State or Organisation. It’s discussed within the context of universal human rights.

And it can never ever be used to justify transgression on another persons basic rights.

Happened to me right here on Mastodon six months ago.

I tooted Merrick Garland is totally useless or Trump would already be in prison.

A Woman replied, you hate Garland because he's Jewish and you're antisemitic." I kid you not!

@GoatRoper I see it as a clear sign of weakness, when people derail the conversation by introducing antisemitism as a cause for being met with an argument they cannot refute.

Yes it is and a stupid way to go off point replying to a comment. I could care less what Merrick Garland's religion is. He is still an incompetent AG.

@randahl I have many conversations with persons of alternate ethnicity to myself and different gender identities and disagreements happen often because life and cultural upbringing differences. It’s often said that, well you aren’t…(fill in the bank) so you can’t understand. I don’t know but those responses could be construed as racist even though it is said from a true space. None of us knows the footsteps of another.

@randahl Narrow Minded people aren't worth talking to, or listening to. There's a quote by a famous person that says that--but, when nobody can find that quote--you have my permission.
