This is how the Israeli government values Palestinian lives:
US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby reveals, that when Israeli forces killed 45 civilians including children and wounded 250 in Rafah, they chose to bomb the densely populated area, because it allowed them to kill just two Hamas terrorists.
Two!
I am fully convinced, this priority is a clear violation of the principle of proportionality and therefore illegal.
@randahl What makes me wonder, is why US gov. is still trying to defend such actions. What's the point? What "secret knowledge" do they have, that they decide to make themselves look ridiculous?
@randahl I mean, sometimes they could decide to stay quiet, or just say it was not a good action, couldn't they?
I understand they have reasons to support Israel militarily.
@randahl funny how we have all these international institutions and no one is talking about sending a neutral peace-keeping force there. the UN is totally useless.
@randahl sure, but peace-keeping was dangerous in the Balkans too, but people accepted it was needed and it helped to get things under control there. I guess my point is, it’s sad that this option is not even in the public discussion. We need to get out of the mindset of backing either Israel or Palestine, rather look at it that all of the people in power there have gone insane and a neutral party is needed to create peace. (End soap box)
To clarify: John Kirby does not say specifically, that Israel gave the go-ahead knowing they could only kill two Hamas members. He says, the final outcome was, two Hamas members were killed — which I interpret as a clear indication, that this was not an opportunity to kill hundreds of Hamas members, and still Israel gave the go-ahead to carry out a bombing operation in a densely populated area.
