@randahl @shuro There is a book about this topic. It covers much more than only hackers from russia. https://play.google.com/store/books/details/There_s_a_War_Going_On_But_No_One_Can_See_It?id=RyEoEAAAQBAJ&gl=US
The author, Huib Modderkolk, is investigative journalist. He also travelled to Russia to speak with hackers. At one point Dutch police had a good contact with somebody placed high in Russia police. They asked for help to arrest hacker from Russia. When action was taken, the russian police officer himself was arrested. The book is worth reading.

Today I will be voting in the EU parliament elections.

In a world where Putin threatens Europe, and too few countries take the climate challenge seriously, electing the most qualified people to lead our way through the hard challenges is important like never before.

Let us send the EU in the right direction — lookup your candidates and go vote!

@randahl I voted on Thursday.

stamberry ,

@randahl Only Thursday. The voting is finished, the final results will be announced soon, the polls are known. Pro EU parties got majority.

@randahl I don't know why Thursday, but in the Netherlands elections are always on workdays, usually Wednesdays. I think, it would be more difficult to organize elections on the weekend (because all others are on workdays). It might have been also confusing for Dutch people.

This is how the Israeli government values Palestinian lives:

US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby reveals, that when Israeli forces killed 45 civilians including children and wounded 250 in Rafah, they chose to bomb the densely populated area, because it allowed them to kill just two Hamas terrorists.

Two!

I am fully convinced, this priority is a clear violation of the principle of proportionality and therefore illegal.

@randahl What makes me wonder, is why US gov. is still trying to defend such actions. What's the point? What "secret knowledge" do they have, that they decide to make themselves look ridiculous?

stamberry ,
@stamberry@mastodon.nl avatar

@randahl I mean, sometimes they could decide to stay quiet, or just say it was not a good action, couldn't they?
I understand they have reasons to support Israel militarily.

Incredible news from Sweden:

While Ukraine has shot down half of Russia’s operations A-50 surveillance planes, Sweden is now sending two SAAB Saab 340B surveillance planes to Ukraine in an impressive aid package worth EUR 1,160,000,000:

— Two Saab 340B surveillance aircraft
— 100 of the PBV 302 armoured personnel vehicle with 20 mm cannon turret
— tanks
— artillery shells
— satellite terminals
— aid in establishing a Ukrainian defence research institute
— additional funds

Heja Sverige!

"Dear Mr. Biden

We have been leveling cities, torturing, raping, killing, plundering and abducting children for so long, my army seriously needs a break, before all those western weapons arrive, and we lose the war.

Therefore, I think western countries should give us a breather, so I can replenish my troops and get back to full blown genocide in about 6-12 months.

From Russia with love ♥️

Vladimir Putin"

@randahl My observation, from very little knowledge, that I have about the war: Putin has sent everything he had on offensive on Chasiv Yar, with no success. Then somebody has promised him disturbing Kharkiv, or at least starting an operation to take it later. As it looks, it is going to fail. He doesn't have much more to throw this year, so he starts talking about ceasefire. An operational break to gather some resources. He starts talking rationally everytime when he is losing. He must lose.

When Russians invaded Ukraine, we did not stop them.
When Russians tortured Ukrainian soldiers, we did not stop them.
When Russians raped Ukrainian women, we did not stop them.
When all the values that we so proudly claim to hold were violated, we did not stop them.
Because conveniently, Ukraine is not a member of NATO. And that is the comfortable blanket we pull over our eyes to fall asleep and forget our human responsibility.
Americans, Canadians, Europeans, Australians…
Wake the fuck up.

Countless social media posts claim, Russia is trying to attack Kharkiv with 50,000 soldiers. Not 500,000 but 50,000.

Even though the Russian army has made some bad decisions in the past, I have a hard time believing this number. Mainly because, that is the magnitude of the force they used to take Bakhmut, which was a city with a prewar population of 73,000; and Kharkiv is a city of 1,419,000 — so 20 times larger.

If anyone has seen a credible source for the 50,000, please let me know.

stamberry ,
@stamberry@mastodon.nl avatar

@randahl I have no idea what the real number is, but it doesn't sound strange to me. It is fine for them as long as they can keep getting some land. If they can get close enough to start destroying the city with cheap artillery, then they will achieve their goal. They know, they cannot get Kharkiv, so they want to destroy it. Make sure people will start escaping. The more die or escape, the better. (Russian culture!)

To many Americans, The Nordic Countries are all the same. Thankfully, you can learn a lot from watching The Eurovision Song Contest.

I have to correct a misunderstanding about donations to Ukraine:

Several Ukrainian media report that Denmark has donated “its entire fleet of F-16 fighter jets”. This is not true.

Denmark is switching to the newer F-35, and so far, 24 F-16 aircraft have been sold to Argentina, while 19 have been donated to Ukraine.

And before anyone asks, why Denmark did not just donate all of them, please note that 4604 F-16s were built, so the right question is, why only a few countries are donating F-16s.

@randahl I still don't understand why Sweden has not yet restarted the production of Gripen and why France is not pushing Mirage 2000 to Ukraine. I guess in few years from now they will be complaining why EU countries are buying american planes...

While Speaker Mike Johnson thinks the threat from Russia is all fun and games, in Europe we now see Germany deploying 5,000 troops to Lithuania in its first permanent deployment since 1945.

Understand that for eight decades, Germany had zero intentions of becoming a dominant military power, but Putin gives Europeans no choice.

This is how real it is outside the MAGA bubble.

@randahl You know what is between Lithuania, Poland and Baltic Sea. Russians have gathered number of rockets there, including nuclear, which can reach Berlin in minutes. If Germany is any serious about their security, they have plans, and resources to neutralize the danger within hours, in case Putin decides to escalate to war against NATO. The fact they have chosen Lithuania as the place to be does not surprise me.

Here in Denmark the weather is always changing dramatically in April.

On April 3 we had 0 °C during the night, and on Tuesday we will have 21 °C during the day. It is like switching from summer to winter and back again multiple times before spring finally gets a hold.

It is for good reason that in Denmark the saying goes, “April, April, has its own will.”
(Danish: “April, April den gør hvad den vil”)

Which month is the chaos weather month in your country?
