Oh sorry, maybe it wasn't that obvious. It's mostly to discuss how to make the communities sustainable, and usually the regular posters are the ones that the main factor.
I wanted to ask you something very specific: do you think that !android and !android might merge at some point in the future? It seems like having two parallel communities is a bit confusing, as people might talk about the same things in two different places, and post the same content.
I know there were conflicts between the two moderating teams in the past, but I'm not sure that's still the case, especially now that thee communities are a bit less active than just after the API changes.
well, originally the !android community was shut down since it moved to lemdro.id. the decision to "unmerge" was made by the LW admins and we have no animosity for that but we also don't have any plans for merging since we already tried that.
Thank you for your feedback! I see, it kind of makes sense from a historical perspective, but I guess it's just confusing for people wanting to ask a question or posting an article seeing two communities which both seem active and with similar rules.
We're certainly not against merging again, but it'll need to be initiated by the mods of !android with the blessing of the admins there (and I suspect the mods are not open to this). We've already given it our best shot!
I posted some stuff and ran into this plus my threads not getting federated to certain places. And 3 weeks later they are still the newest posts on those communities (Kbin's ps1graphics and blender communities, note that Kbin communities seem to not use the community link format).
I had some technical questions and a roadblock too, but they are niche so I just... didn't deal with it. Maybe there's an instance out there that'd fit (for me, someone who dabbles in art and programming while not really being those things), but also I doubt it particularly because I'm only interested in a semi-niche programming language. Audience vs niche seems like an unwinnable balance.
I've thought about posting to a more popular lemmy.world community for the next thing I make as it would probably get more of a response, but probably not answers so that wouldn't matter since the stuff I made so far was just random objects. Well, I guess getting answers for Blender questions is more likely.
I haven't, the other community I was thinking of is !artshare which has 3.94K subs.
My style is low-poly with vertex colors (no textures). My Blender questions weren't really that important, the roadblock I am having is trying to use said models in a specific framework (or maybe the very specific bindings I'm using) just not loading vertex colors (I am not sure if there is 'help' here, aside from just fix it).
We've discussed having a community spotlight over on feddit.uk as we have unloved communities like !disney. However, with !disney and !disney perhaps we should just shutter it.
As I've said since the beginning, I'd like to see more diversification of opinion in the userbase.
There are a LOT of people here that are the kind of activist you'd see get banned on Reddit for being hyper-aggressive and it really turns neutral- or otherwise-thinking users off. They don't discuss, they immediately attack and flame and it's not good for building communities around except hyper-focused ones based on those issues specifically.
I want people who know the reason they think something and don't just have an emotional response and stick with it, then strawman everyone else in the vicinity who deviates.
As we say in the main Rules for our Community ( !actual_discussion ), "Not everything is a genocide, and not everyone even slightly to the right of you is a Nazi."
I also want MUCH better Community controls such as the ability to decorate, and disable downvotes.
No worries, we just have a few discussions ongoing. For instance, for !gardening, do you think there is anything that could be done to bring more people to it? Are you happy with posting there regularly, or would you rather have more people? Do you find enough content and engagement in your posts?
My main Strategie is to Daily post, and for communitys where thats hard, having a good consistent scheduel st the least is always good.
Also always Crosspost if possible. Crossposting was the main way how back in the day, I got my Faivourite reddit community from 1000 to 10000 Subscribers, and it still work pretty well here as well
Not all apps show crossposts yet, or don't do so prominently. And a post going big in one community, can cannibalize all the other cross-posts due to de-duplication, meaning only one post gets the lions share of votes.
I've since changed my posting tool to actually make the various cross-posts at different times, instead of all at once.
This works well with my communities as art isn't time sensitive, and it's also kind of an excuse to re-post something a couple times, so different people can see it.

It doesn't actually do anything. I usually remove it because it's just redundant, and the link takes you off-instance 99% of the time. Also it only works in one direction. The proper cross post links appear on both/all three/or more posts.
The webUI shows cross-posts as little links in the post info, and some clients do something similar.
Photon handles it well, and Thunder has had basic support for a while. But I'm looking to make it very easy to hop between several posts by displaying some details about each one in a list, like votes, comment count, and post date.
I feel having a balance between more popular and widely used communitys as well as smaller and nicher ones work pretty well for me, where I admin 3 rather popular and broad communitys and 3 small and very niche ones. That way it just feels like more is happening yknow?
I also can only recommend utilising a Post Schedueler and making 1-2 weeks worth of posts at a time!
When you manually post daily, it does feel pretty lonely, but if you do all the work in a few hours for 2 weeks like I usually do, it really does feel less like shouting into a void since you aren't actively posting per say that way
I mean, the posts are usually schedueled for the same time with 5 minutes apart. I always look forward to letting them all post and then looking over them all at once!
Flairs would be super nice. I hope we could also have multiple flairs on a post, as opposed to how reddit has them limited to only 1. I reccon letting the Community/Instance owners take charge as to how many flairs posts could have would be the smartest option
Interesting variety of opinions on there, thanks for sharing that one.
I like our little group here debating how to make Lemmy better, even if nobody ever actually implements any of this stuff. It gives me better insight to how others use this site or social media in general, and I can use that to better use what tools I do actually have available.
