Oh yeeeesss, I had no idea they were working on a sequel to the original short

The animation looks really cheap honestly..

The animated "Watchmen" movie is confirmed to be a two-parter, and will be CG animated instead of 2D. "Watchmen: Chapter 1" allegedly releases in August 2024, while Chapter 2 has been delayed to 2025.

Can't wait for them to say "it's Watchin' time!" and then watched all over the bad guys.

Ehhhh... On one hand, we get another chance that they might do a great adaptation of Watchmen, but on the other hand every single time they touch the IP it pales in comparison to the original graphic novel. I kind of wish they'd leave it alone.

I'm actually really happy that the 2nd season will be the final one, it's good that they won't stretch out the story longer than it has to be.

Sounds awesome. The poster is also giving me big Akira vibes.

I still cannot believe they think people love Gollum. Why can't they just make a normal lord of the rings movie?

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

Right? Cats are very low effort. They can basically live on their own and have a good habit of staying clean and only pooping in the litterbox. Chances are they'll either be sleeping or lazing around the house. Putting them next to dogs which need WAY more attention is off.

Making every community ever in your instance won't attract any users, the only thing they're going to see is dozens of empty communities.

With that in mind we are announcing updates that will go into effect before Recall (preview) ships to customers on June 18.

I doubt they can do much with last-minute changes. It being opt-in is better, at least.

our review units of the new Surface hardware are being delayed by a week or so, presumably so Microsoft can update them.

GROAAAAAAAN. I just want to see proper benchmarks of Qualcomm's new chips and they keep delaying it despite the laptops releasing later this month.

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

The average person doesn't even know that new hardware is coming because the only thing MS is advertising is "AI AI AI AI AI AI AI". Is that seriously more appealing than saying "hey our new laptops have better performance and 2x more battery life than older laptops"? Because I'm feeling the latter is what they should've leaned on.

Why Assassin's Creed has lost its identity?

Remember those iconic games before 2014? The OG, while dated was really unique for its time, the Ezio Auditore Trilogy that became the standard for the franchise, 3, that was very ambitious (probably too much) with it's setting and story telling. Even 4, although it was the first time AC escaped from the base of what an...

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

Because they were getting really stale and they wanted to hold onto the franchise name anyways. People are nostalgic now, but when AC games were coming out back to back people were getting really bored of it.

When Assassin's Creed 3 came out, everyone was saying how this is the third time they remade what is basically the same game (AC2, brotherhood, revelations, then 3). People weren't impressed. Unity and Rogue didn't sell that well. Syndicate apparently also didn't sell very well.

So they basically remade the franchise into an RPG starting from Origins. They aren't that special, but honestly, neither was everything after Revelations.

Graduated from college ages ago. Still have nightmares that I'm late to an exam or haven't studied well.

Everyone that wants context should read this: https://lunduke.substack.com/p/the-internet-archives-last-ditch

Listen, I love the IA and everything they stand for, but they're not winning this. They fucked up and gave away copyrighted content, for free, in unlimited amounts during covid. They then proceed to melt down in court because they know it's impossible to win. Now they're seeking empathy from everyone and not talking about why they got sued - which is giving away potentially millions of copies of other people's work...

I don’t even REMEMBER 3.

Dragon age inquisition is pretty well received from what I've seen. It wasn't amazing but I don't think the series is as dead as you might think.

Very cool. I think PieFed will be a sleeper hit when it's stable, right now the spotlight is on Lemmy and Mbin but I'd gladly switch to it if it has better features. I like the idea of topics to make content discovery way easier. Polls seem nice as well.

@simple@lemm.ee avatar

The movie was sick too. I don't understand why they never revived that series.

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

Not to mention if it does happen and it does make it to consumers these robots will be insanely expensive to make and maintain. People going "why doesn't AI just work on physical labor?!" can't seem to understand that software is a million times easier and cheaper to make

It's not like scientists woke up one day and said DAMN we need to make robots take away fun jobs ans nothing else. It's just where machine learning took us.

They OCR the entire screen and store it in plaintext?! There is no way... I know it's Microsoft we're talking about, but are they really this stupid?

There's a button in the bottom right to make the page wide. As for text size, I guess it's kind of redundant since you can just zoom in the page.

There's even a deluxe edition of the game that comes with a physical version of the manual! Though having all the pages from the start is a little spoilery.

The data suggests some gamers are partially treating the service to trial or even rent a game they might be interested in, before unsubscribing.

This is me. I often subscribe when there's a discount, go through some games I'm not interested in buying but want to play anyways. Xbox game pass specifically has a lot of great indies that can be finished relatively quickly.

I subscribed earlier this year for a month, might resubscribe for a month again later this year.

Can confirm, my friend worked as a cook for 2 different places (not fast food, local restaurants) for a while because he needed money in college. He told me it's the most stressful job he's experienced and the pay wasn't worth the effort. Nobody in the kitchen wanted to be there, in prime hours there are so many orders that they can't help but rush everything while shouting to each other.

I can imagine how tedious that job is, having to make the same food for months except you're always time pressured and told to do it faster. Working as a waiter or cashier is way simpler and I imagine the pay difference isn't massive.

If somebody hasn't played Jak and Daxter yet, now is the time. It's a lovely 3D platformer, I can't wait until the whole trilogy is ported.

simple ,
@simple@lemm.ee avatar

No way lol, dark souls 1 is likely the most difficult in the series because it doesn't hold your hand at all, and it's very easy to get lost. There's a reason it people kept comparing any super hard game to dark souls despite the fact that DS2 and DS3 were fairly accessible.

Most applications are/can be compiled for arm. You just need the right repo or to compile from source.

Maybe the essentials like browsers and CMD tools are available for ARM, but I'm talking about applications in general. Almost all of Flatpak won't work, not everyone will bother compiling for ARM and those that do probably won't do so as soon as these laptops release. You'd have to be a real poweruser to compile stuff from source and not suffer. Not to mention proprietary stuff that are already reluctant to support Linux, imagine how long it'll take for things like Zoom and Discord to get official support. Before anyone hits me with the "those don't matter", it does to a lot of people.

You don’t need a translation layer unless the software is proprietary and the vendor isn’t willing to compile for arm.

Even then, there will be tons of legacy apps people will want to run.

Isn’t there things like qemu and box64…

Yeah, but they're experimental and probably very buggy. I've used box64 on my phone, it doesn't play well with everything.

Can it do LLM inference as fast as a M2/M3 Macbook?

It should be better at AI stuff than M series laptops, allegedly. Many manufacturers actually started listing their prices for the new laptops, the new Microsoft ones start at 16GB of RAM at $1000. I know the Lenovo one can reach 64GB of RAM but not sure about the pricing.
