I guess it vaguely looks like this one in terms of the large flat plane in the front. Though it's blade runner, so it's all grungy like pieces are falling off and it's all rusted and junk. Wait maybe cyber truck was inspired by bladeunner.

This is likely linked to Dagestan's desire to leave the Russia Federation.

A Russian civil war is not out of the question.

What many of us don’t know, is that the majority of people sent to the meat grinder in Ukraine is from peripheral regions like Dagestan, and not from central Russia (e.g. Moscow). These are different cultures and ethnicities subjugated by the Russian “empire”. And some of them are sick of being killed for the “emperor”, which can lead to unrest and maybe a civil war, like it did in many similar situations in history.

credo , to World News in Teva launches generic version of Novo Nordisk's diabetes drug Victoza | Reuters

This article doesn’t cover it (specifically) so I went digging to see if this might compete with weight loss drugs as well:

Victoza (liraglutide) is also used to treat obesity. While it was originally approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, it has also been approved under the brand name Saxenda for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or who are overweight with at least one weight-related condition such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or dyslipidemia. Saxenda and Victoza contain the same active ingredient, liraglutide, but they are marketed and dosed differently depending on the indication.

Google said:

As of April 2024, the list price for a 30-day supply of Saxenda (liraglutide) is around $1,350, but the actual cost can range from $1,590 to $1,656 without insurance or discounts.

Lol, in Europe Saxenda costs around 100 per box. Victoza and other versions for diabetics are even cheaper, as they are subsidized by health insurance (while Saxenda is not).

queue , to United States | News & Politics in Pentagon ran secret anti-vax campaign to undermine China during pandemic
@queue@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

“I don’t think it’s defensible,” said Daniel Lucey, an infectious disease specialist at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. “I’m extremely dismayed, disappointed and disillusioned to hear that the U.S. government would do that,” said Lucey, a former military physician who assisted in the response to the 2001 anthrax attacks.

In 2019, Trump authorized the Central Intelligence Agency to launch a clandestine campaign on Chinese social media aimed at turning public opinion in China against its government, Reuters reported in March. As part of that effort, a small group of operatives used bogus online identities to spread disparaging narratives about Xi Jinping’s government.

U.S. military leaders feared that China’s COVID diplomacy and propaganda could draw other Southeast Asian countries, such as Cambodia and Malaysia, closer to Beijing, furthering its regional ambitions.

A senior U.S. military commander responsible for Southeast Asia, Special Operations Command Pacific General Jonathan Braga, pressed his bosses in Washington to fight back in the so-called information space, according to three former Pentagon officials.

By summer 2020, the military’s propaganda campaign moved into new territory and darker messaging, ultimately drawing the attention of social media executives.

In regions beyond Southeast Asia, senior officers in the U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations across the Middle East and Central Asia, launched their own version of the COVID psyop, three former military officials told Reuters.

Although the Chinese vaccines were still months from release, controversy roiled the Muslim world over whether the vaccines contained pork gelatin and could be considered “haram,” or forbidden under Islamic law. Sinovac has said that the vaccine was “manufactured free of porcine materials.” Many Islamic religious authorities maintained that even if the vaccines did contain pork gelatin, they were still permissible since the treatments were being used to save human life.

The Pentagon campaign sought to intensify fears about injecting a pig derivative. As part of an internal investigation at X, the social media company used IP addresses and browser data to identify more than 150 phony accounts that were operated from Tampa by U.S. Central Command and its contractors, according to an internal X document reviewed by Reuters.

Facebook executives had first approached the Pentagon in the summer of 2020, warning the military that Facebook workers had easily identified the military’s phony accounts, according to three former U.S. officials and another person familiar with the matter. The government, Facebook argued, was violating Facebook’s policies by operating the bogus accounts and by spreading COVID misinformation.

The military argued that many of its fake accounts were being used for counterterrorism and asked Facebook not to take down the content, according to two people familiar with the exchange. The Pentagon pledged to stop spreading COVID-related propaganda, and some of the accounts continued to remain active on Facebook.

Nonetheless, the anti-vax campaign continued into 2021 as Biden took office.

Angered that military officials had ignored their warning, Facebook officials arranged a Zoom meeting with Biden’s new National Security Council shortly after the inauguration, Reuters learned. The discussion quickly became tense.

“It was terrible,” said a senior administration official describing the reaction after learning of the campaign’s pig-related posts. “I was shocked. The administration was pro-vaccine and our concern was this could affect vaccine hesitancy, especially in developing countries.”

Curious to see how Putin spins this. He's very committed to the Ukraine gambit and dividing force strength wouldn't likely be in his favor at this point, so this seems off brand for a false flag. Or it's more of the local terror groups taking advantage of the fact that they are focused on Ukraine.

My guess: unresolved national tensions and probable separatism seeds + weakness of the state in the last year (Prigo's march, Krokus, buryatian demonstrations against jailing a known activist) + 24\7 stream of hatred on TV + jealousy of more autonomous and supported regions. That's not like there wasn't any violence here, but recently it became more apparent with Mahachkala's airport being crowded by a mob of locals to 'meet' people who arrived from Israel. This place becomes more dangerous and as you pointed out Moskow would likely ignore it. And it's too random for a false flag, I believe.

I think it is safe to say that the Russian empire is getting more than a bloody nose in Ukraine.

ArcaneSlime , (edited ) to World News in How Sweden's youth homes nurtured killers, creating Europe's gun crime capital

Pffft no way, sweden doesn't have gun crime because only american laws can do a gun crime, impossible without it. Those swedes don't know how to build anything and there isn't a single machine shop or black market dealer anywhere outside of the US!

Hang on I'm being passed an update...

It seems that machine shops actually exist everywhere and bad people can indeed get things illegally, or even legally if they haven't been caught being bad yet. Man who'da thunk it? I could've sworn that "if we had gun laws like yurop" it would solve all our problems 600,000,000 unregistered guns be damned.

As he was too young to be sentenced

Check it out, the same logic that let Cruz walk free on the over 40 calls made about him before he shot up Parkland. Maybe charging murderous children is actually a good way to keep them from buying guns as adults which is much harder with a record in America, I can only imagine the same would apply to swedes, and then whatever senior members will have to get guns illegally (which tbh isn't that hard but at least you can say you tried.)

awesome_lowlander ,

Sweden, which is currently experiencing an outbreak of gum violence, has 62 fatal shootings in 2022. To put that in perspective, adjusted for population, the equivalent would be 2000 shootings in the states.

Actual number of fatal, non-suicide shootings in the states? 20000.

ArcaneSlime ,

Difference being nobody is going around claiming the US is perfect. You ever talk to a european? They have an inability to admit anything bad happens there, generally, and if it did it was merica's fault of course.

awesome_lowlander ,

They have an inability to admit anything bad happens there

Don't know which Europeans you've been talking to, but I live in Europe and we certainly have a lot of complaints to go around.

ArcaneSlime ,

A lot of them seem to be that way, likely terminally online ones of course.

You seem cool though!

barsoap ,

We get like that around Americans, trying to teach you how to complain about your own country. For some reason, you're not receptive to that kindness.

ArcaneSlime ,

Oh I complain about the US a lot, as does everyone here on lemmy and everyone I know IRL, but europeens think they can feel superior for being little middle of the road countries the size of Michigan and forget we're the size of the whole ass EU meaning that's the correct comparison, which your "superiority" just doesn't cover. Sure, NL may be fine, just try to be a black guy in the wrong berlin neighborhood though, I've heard some interesting stories about the "totally not nazi" police there. I also hear France is becoming Nazis, and sweden has a lot of gun crime and the occasional grenade attack, we don't even have those in America lol, certainly sounds like we all have enough problems, but nope, you idiots have to pretend you're better because deep down you know you'll never be. Oh well.

barsoap ,

I know I know the US totally compares well in terms of police violence and prisoners per capita. To North Korea. It also compares well in terms of gang violence -- to Haiti or Mexico.

Meanwhile, Germans consider it a national embarrassment that the Swiss and Japanese have better train systems. All a matter of perspective.

ArcaneSlime ,

Hmm the Germans don't keep the trains running on time anymore? Interesting, you'd think if they kept one thing from 1933-1945 it would have been that instead of the literal nazi police members they still have. Strange. Funny you guys also have one of the sex trafficking capitols of the world, Romania. Btw of how are the UK racists who insist that "they hate the 'gypsies' for their culture" which is exactly what the racists say over here about the "thugs" and their "rap music?"

Foh lmao, we both have problems and you're just as delusional as the nationalistic dickheads I'm always bitching at over here, but you pick an area the size of one of our states to be nationalistic about which lets be real is fucking sad.

barsoap ,

For someone who claims to be able to complain about their own country you're doing awfully little of it.

Also, no, the Nazis didn't make the trains run on time. Unless you count animal wagons, that is.

ArcaneSlime ,

Whoops my bad, that was Mussolini, Italy is in the EU too though and so was Franco's Spain. I hear they still have a problem with fascists too, weird trend developing here. Btw fucking wild you'd say "animal trains," of course they also compared Jewish people to animals so I shouldn't be surprised, I guess that's why you're brushing the whole current nazi problem aside.

And wait I thought we could only talk shit and pretend our countries are the best, which the US is and it's perfect, there are no problems. (That's you, that's what you sound like.)

barsoap ,

Btw fucking wild you’d say “animal trains,” of course they also compared Jewish people to animals so I shouldn’t be surprised,

Maybe because they actually used animal trains. Cattle wagons. Something like that it's not like I'm a native speaker. The type of train carriage built for purposes of transporting livestock.

What did you expect, 1st class accommodations to Auschwitz?

...and no, Mussolini didn't get the trains running on time, either. The Swiss and Japanese do, though.

And wait I thought we could only talk shit and pretend our countries are the best, which the US is and it’s perfect, there are no problems.

Who do you mean with "we", here? US and China? Oh, Bavaria. Bavaria also definitely qualifies.

ArcaneSlime ,

Coulda went with murder trains or something less racist, really. Pretty fucked up dude.

Suuuree suuure which evil fascist dictator did it is really the point, ignore the "fascist" bit, that's in the past, and ignore the "current" bit too because that would be admitting you have a problem and you can't do that, you have to pretend you're perfect, because you have nothing going for you other than white aryan Europeen "supremacy."

You're a reactionary, nationalistic, delusional, and seemingly racist person, seek help.

barsoap ,

Coulda went with murder trains or something less racist, really. Pretty fucked up dude.

I don't think having trains specialised to murder people in makes much difference to using cattle wagons to transport people to camps specialised to murder people in. In the grand scheme of things, in both cases you're still constructing something specifically to murder people in.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Oh no, plenty bad happens here. Just that when comparing to the problems the US has... Yeah, it's a good reminder of how well everything works over here, despite the problems.

ArcaneSlime ,

Of course, plenty of good happens here too, it's just that it doesn't fit the "if it bleeds it leads" business model so you never hear about it. Some areas here are just as safe as some areas of europe, some areas of europe are just as unsafe as some areas here.

This may surprise you to learn, but the US is comparable to the size of the entire EU, and as a result there are similar variances in safety between the two.

Er, I mean, US GOOD EUROPE BAD. Did I fill my role correctly there after that silly nuance break?

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

The US is overall a shithole masquerading as a first world country, only on the basis that the US is lucky enough to have had Europe use the dollar to rebuild after WWII. You'd have to squint incredibly hard to find any place comparable to Europe in the US, and then you'd still be stuck with car centric neighbourhoods and healthcare that'll put you in a life debt for stubbing your toe.
