TPS was created under bush, and even though Trump made a lot of noise about ending tps for Haitians, he never did. So these Haitians where in the country already, and he did not deport them then, so now it's Bidens fault.. am I understanding that correctly?

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, the reply should be.. you made a claim without any evidence to back it up, so we will dismiss it just like that.

He does a tu quoque, shifts the burden of proof and makes himself the authority "because his constituents told him".. it's a nice trifecta and the media just let's him.

Wood be cool if some of their pr people got together and setup their own mastodon instance, that they only allow their own people to setup accounts and then they can join the fediverse.

I don't think they can plaster over that.

It's basically women cosplaying being a 1950s traditional housewife.. and then getting surprised that the men who actually want this turn out to be massive misogynistic POS's. It's a safe search, if only for the schadenfreude.

Sure.. plenty of people have kinks that work in their relationship. But mostly the tradwifes are not in it for the kink but for some misguided idolized view of how things would work.. they make home and take care of their man, making themselves completely dependent. Only to then find out why women's suffrage has been fighting so hard for independent self sufficient women. Because if the man turns out to be abusive, you are trapped.

Are Western double standards undermining the global order? ( www.dw.com )

"Wherever I go, I find myself confronted with the accusations of double standards," said EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell at Oxford University in May. The comparison between the iraq war and Russian invasion of Ukraine is disingenuous though. The western led coalition did not go in with a message that Irak had no right to exist and its people where just (Saudis or something) confused part of one of their neighboring countries. The Russians very much are intent on permanently erasing Ukranians from history.

@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

LoL at thinking these countries got wiser. They are just getting competing offers from china now that serve the decision makers better. Bribery is an important tool in this. If the countries and their population will fare better in the future... China needs cheap labor for their next stage of growth.. to do what we did using china.

But ... These countries are not led by a political ideology that believes in the destiny of their country being the greatest (and lift their population out of poverty). Instead many of these countries are led by people who will sell their mother if they can. And in the west we at least try to hold companies to ethical standards (and regularly fail) .. china does not have any issues with what happens in not-china.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

The false pretenses and blatant lies are the big issue imho. If the reason they gave would have been true, I would have been OK with removing a maniac like Hussein.. but it was lies.. making the whole ordeal indeed a horrible example of a terrible war that should have never happened. And something that should have landed the people that lied, in jail.

Alternatively, Ukraine claims they can expand their own military industrial complex by a factor 4 but they don't have the money themselves. So the US could also just give them cash. But this would hurt their own MIC, so they also won't do that.

So the 3rd week of October all these out and about domestic terrorists get rolled up in raids all across the US and held for several weeks before their trial starts, right.

Because everything is always "their" fault right? Secretary of state is corrupt, judge is corrupt... Can't just be that someone that crawls out from under her rock once every 4 years has not used the last 4 years to setup a competent organisation.

Badeendje ,

So "they" did it... This lady is running for office of the president of the US. If she can't even get this figured out.. especially if she knows the evil Dems are out to sabotage her.. how is she fit to run for president. It's not as if the R's or other parties will always have her best interests at heart either.

And how many other political positions does her party have obtained in local elections during the last 8 years?

White officer who fatally shot Black man shouldn’t have been in his backyard, judge rules in suit ( apnews.com )

Ofcourse, because OBGYN's have skills interchangable with any ER doctor. And if a random ER doctor ends up with a dead baby, mother or both.. off to jail!

These doctors went to medical school to learn to make medical decissions. And now they have hospital lawyers telling them, certain decissions will land them in jail. So their only option is, move states, leaving mothers and babies without the care they need.

The lawmakers interjected their beliefs into medical care and now everyone is paying the price. And because people don't like that, they blame the doctors. Accusing the doctors of moral cowardice, to avoid having to deal with the fact that they themselves are complicit in these deaths.

Badeendje , (edited )
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

They are legally bound to not do things that might help the mother, because doing that might/will kill the baby. And that is not allowed.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

You expect these doctors to risk their freedom? That's a pretty big ask.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

So, if medical professionals tell you this is risky for them as they might go to jail, because medicine is not an exact science, you know better?

The professionals tell you it's not easy, and risky to their freedom, you'd better believe them.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

No, slapping tarrifs on imported goods means they become more expensive as the tarrifs will be included in the price.

If you think that american companies that produce domestically (untariffed) will not raise their prices to maximize their profits you might have what Trump has. Plus a lot of their raw materials/components come from abroad and will also be tariffed.

Laat round of tarrifs Trump imposed led to retaliatory tarrifs by china. This hurt the US farmers so hard that most of the us tarrifs revenue went to farmers as subsidies.

I'm not into conspiracy theories, but I find the confidence that is used in the defense of this origin just as Shakey as the lab leak theory.

The lab location and research done means there is a lot of potential incentive for the Chinese government, the lab and even researchers in the field to not have it be a lab leak... As this would potentially cause an entire (important) field of study and their methods be regulated into oblivion by poorly written knee jerk laws.

I'm fine with this as the accepted consensus on the subject, but I'll keep my reservations for whatever good those do me.

So how's the abolishing of wet markets going? And the reduction of antibiotics use in industrial scale farming?

Brazil top judge accuses X of ‘willful’ circumvention of court-ordered block ( www.theguardian.com )

Issue a warrant for musk's arrest and request interpol to pick him up. A few days in a Brazilian prison waiting for his court appearance should make him get the point.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

You mean musk, right?

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I know.. the route has a few steps.

The 3rd country can reject arresting the person or not extradite him.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

No, that is why countries have extradition treaties, extradition hearings and/or sign up to other treaties. To make sure law is respected across borders but not simply abused by bad actors.

This also goes for bad actor sicophants that repeatedly and knowingly break a Brazilian law they don't agree with and then thumb their nose at their legal system.

And even without these treaties it's known to happen. Examples: The Netherlands does not have an extradition treaty with Dubai, but when the most wanted man of the Netherlands was verified to be there, the Dubai police arrested him, drove him to the airport and chucked him into a Dutch government plane waiting at the airport. That's the downside of hiding in a country that does not care about individual rights.. of their chief decides you should be "not here" they kick you out.. no due process, nothing. And just recently the kid of the same guy.. also very wanted was found and brought to the Netherlands in the same fashion.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

It's not. Twitter needs to appoint a representative in brazil, according to their law. Twitter refuses this... An this caused the fine.

Badeendje , (edited )
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

So if a company is required to have a legal representative in a country, so the government has someone to talk to instead of getting a poop emoji email. And the company says.. nah, we're good.. this is fine?

And if posts on a social media, active in a country, break the laws of a country, that's fine too?

Because if someone would start putting out tweets for selling suicide powder in the US, or a school shooting DIY kit.. that would be taken down too.

Probably making the tweets unavailable in Brazil/for Brazilian users would have been enough.. but Mr .. "I'm agitating for someone to try and assassinate harris" thinks it should be allowed.

Courts are there for a reason. If they (Twitter) do not want to follow Brazilian law, they should just withdraw from the Brazilian market. But they are already changing course.

Maybe they can get that AI generated robot lady with the hand gestures to make Another video.

Badeendje , (edited )
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

It isn't illegal or extraditable to not want to do business in Brazil. But Twitter wanted to do business there while ignoring a ruling from the Brazilian high court.. and that won't fly. They fought the ruling through the courts and ended up with an unfavorable final verdict and decided.. nah fuck them judges and their Brazilian law. That's when you cross the line into stuff that will get you fined, blocked and should get you extradited.

Edit: afaik the accounts that should have been banned, one was used to invite the military to rise up against the government, the other doxxed a police officer investigating the issue of the account advocating the military rise up. Both accounts where requested shutdown as part of these investigations.

You know these are all Kremlin talking points right?

Most of the money the US spends on Ukraine NEVER leaves the US. It is simply given to the US military as additional budget to buy new toys and give their old unwanted or nearly expired toys to Ukraine.

Ukraine became a separate country after the mortal enemy of the US the Soviet union collapsed under her own weight at the end of the cold war. It's weird to hear Americans say what you said.. being a country that fought for independence from a colonial oppressor and still proudly celebrates that.
