This is the future of mine clearing. Drones that autonomously scan an area, talk to others that can flag UXO for analysis. Possibly even have a drone bring a clearing charge.

The operator can sit in his van to monitor a swarm of these things.

South Korea blasts Russia-North Korea deal, says it will consider supplying arms to Ukraine ( apnews.com )

South Korea’s presidential office on Thursday condemned an agreement reached by Russia and North Korea that vowed mutual defense assistance in the event of war and said it will reconsider its policy of limiting its support to Ukraine to non-lethal supplies....

South Korean artillery shell production goes bbbrrrr.

Also a fine chance to get some battle testing on a battalion of K9's and maybe even a brigade of K2's.

In a little over 2 years the EU went from being primarily dependent on Russian gas to now slapping on sanctions.

I'll bet China is watching this.

The EU has now started identifying which resources rely on china that we can't live without and will also start divesting there. Russian gas crunch was a tough and expensive lesson.

Putin says Russia and North Korea will help each other if attacked, taking ties to a ‘new level’ ( www.cnn.com )

Vladimir Putin said Russia and North Korea have ramped up ties to a “new level,” pledging to help each other if either nation is attacked in a “breakthrough” new partnership announced during the Russian president’s rare visit to the reclusive state....

Kim should check with Armenia how it works put to be in a bilateral security treaty with Russia and you get attacked.

Isn't this a common thing that before summer break they collect cases and defer judgements and dump it all on the day they leave for summer break?

Time for a training exercise on the southern end of the finnish-russo border, no?

I suggest operation "wintery open door" as a name for the exercise.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

No no.. we're just here for exercise, don't mind us.

But these are the city and another party. Civil liability etc. separate investigations that come after the FBI.

So yeah, it really sucks for these guys. And the judge should put a clock on the time the city and other parties have, so these guys can go home asap.

And the fact that there really is nothing you can add to Trump to make him look worse. People that currently still vote for him will not be dissuaded.

The danger in the US seems to be Biden keeling over dead before Trump and the crazies yelling "genocide Joe".

Badeendje ,

And Russia is able to cart in supplies by road and rail. If anything Ukraine is also showing that supply across a 100+ miles of sea will be nearly impossible. The navy does not have to control the waters, they just need to deny the Chinese access to it and that is much easier.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

And the Russians where also very vocal about not invading Ukraine right up to the moment that they did. So what I'm trying to say is "talk is cheap".

You will be the one screetching "bullshit" once the tariffs come out and the EU and US pivot away from China hard, aren't you?

Geopolitics start with warning and some light pressure. But there are plenty of countries around the world that would love to get foreign capital to start their industrial base.

The fact that a lot of raw materials come from Africa makes it smart to move some there. Lift population out of poverty, cut down on transport and move it closer at the same time.

Badeendje ,

Yeah, with their occupation of south Ossetia, invasion of Ukraine, enslavement of Uyghurs and 9 dash line shenanigans. Fuck em.

Nice post. If anything the curator could claim advertising costs maybe.

If anything I hope this smeghead ends up drawing his whole inner circle with him down the black hole he should be going.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Exactly. The R's have shown how this works plenty of times. And more importantly the public has a right to know. So yeah. And you can subpoena the judge, and if he does not want to show his tax returns, subpoena the IRS. The justice can either come and provide context, or we do it for you.

I used to have this M1 Battletank game in the 90s and I remember the brdm2 where the easy to pick off targets. As they could not hurt you, but usually did indicate there was a sagger missile Team nearby.

It is good and sad to see there brdm's on the battlefield. Sad because a museum somewhere is missing one of their pieces, good cause they where shit in the 60s 70s and 80s and they are still shit now.

The torch of hate for Russia will burn bright in Ukraine with reminders like these.

And probably a lot was invested in catching these scallywags. Just imagine having to setup this kind of monitoring. Or did the employees have mouse mover.exe on their pc.

Probably they recorded the screen and used that as monitoring.

Putin demands more Ukrainian land to end war; Kyiv rejects 'ultimatum' ( www.msn.com )

MOSCOW (Reuters) -President Vladimir Putin said on Friday Russia would end the war in Ukraine only if Kyiv agreed to drop its NATO ambitions and hand over the entirety of four provinces claimed by Moscow, demands Kyiv swiftly rejected as tantamount to surrender....

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, in a world without nuclear weapons.

The moment NATO troops show up in Ukraine for combat duties the dynamics change dramatically. Russia will point at it and tell "see, they are here to invade" to drum up more aupport, they might even start deploying conscripts to the conflict.

It probably would help more to cut off Russias ability to circumvent the sanctions. Deploy navies to check more ships and such. Close the Bosporus for ships from and to russia. Also working on their ability to recruit abroad would probably help a lot.

NATO taking over the defense of the Ukraniane-Belarus border could be an option though as well as the airspace of Western Ukraine.

And lastly, more equipment.. much more. 4 additional patriots, and shells.. so many shells.

Turkiye is the proper name btw. They formally requested people start using their name correctly.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Apparently the spelling is closer to the pronunciation and is older than the English spelling.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_Turkey

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

In the wiki article. The request was formally don'e by the government of Turkiye to the UN. It was accepted as a formal name change. And yes, Erdogan is their president. Im also not a fan of him, but calling a country by their name should not be contentious, or should it?

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

But that's the job of law enforcement. A law is created by the legislative branch and then enforced by the FBI or such. If they find evidence of a crime it is then prosecuted by separate people.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Whoever in Turkey pushed hard for the S400 and argued (successfully) that being locked out of the F35 was worth the trade off, should be forced to walk around with a pointy hat with donkey ears for the rest of their life.

At the same time, the S400 sales reps did not get paid enough...

I'm just surprised that the Russian air defense across the board seems to be as ineffective as it is (even naval AA... The Moskva).

So, if you cannot question those in power.. you have to accept what they tell you. In the West companies had to prove stuff works ad nauseam. In the end ... War does not accept close enough... It either works or you end up on Oryx.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Like everything else about the west, NATO was also presented as just a paper tiger and not even worth the paper of the founding document. The cynical way Russians view the world is through their own exceptionalism, and if we can't do it.. noone can. Like the Americans.. but then with less value on human life and dignity.

And if you repeat lies long enough you start believing them yourself. Now it turns put CSTO is just the Russian goon squad cosplaying as NATO.

Although I dont think anyone knows what would happen if 2 NATO countries would end up in an open war.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

True, they where till 99. Hence the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan should have brought down the Cato hammer. And when it does not I can imagine that staying is not an option.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah.. fuck those German car makers with their safe reliable vehicles.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Well looking at their income per sector commercial is the largest. And they probably split r&d across these sectors. So losing civil aviation probably would mean they can be less competitive as defense contractors.

U.S. company found liable of financing Colombian paramilitary death squad to advance its interests ( www.latintimes.com )

A U.S. jury in Miami has ruled that Chiquita Brands International is liable for financing the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), a paramilitary death squad designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. during Colombia's civil war....

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

And found liable, so now families of victims of the group can also litigate.

Money won't bring back loved ones, but making this as painfully as possible means that these practices will diminish.

That said, it hopefully opens the doors for actual criminal investigation to throw in jail those responsible.

This is like in a computer game. Follow the drone to the next waypoint.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Or, Don't let their government funded cheap vehicles kill of your own industry only to price gauge you once they destroyed the competition.

And no, hybrid is not the plan. The aim is full electric in Europe.. per law.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

No the European car makers need to make 15 and 20k EVs for sure. But letting your industrial base be atrofied by government funded companies worked well for out pharma industry.. or our solar panel industry.or.. should I go on?

Dependence on china for anything is asking for trouble.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

The issue is with the Chinese owned and operated companies. Not Tesla. Tesla sucks for many other reasons.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Sure.. we need Evs at half the price point we see currently. The luxury SUV is a cash cow for the carmakers so there is their focus currently.

The cash subsidies was first unlimited, now in the Netherlands it is capped at cars of 50k. Next stage it will be capped at 20k I believe.

The market is being transformed from expensive to cheap. I'm confident we will get there.

And the BYD proposition looks awesome. So I hope something is done. But letting chinese subsidied cars wreak unfeathered havoc should also not be the way to go. Just like string free protection of the European car makers is also not the way to go.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

The market will be much smaller indeed. But S400 has capabilities absent from patriot.. and I don't mean unplanned rapid disassembly.

I think the market for Russian shorad will be non existing. Their inability to deal with drones.. ouch.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Not only longer range but also highly mobile air defense supplied by NATO countries specially designed to take on helicopters.
