Damaging an aircraft is a serious felony, and you don't own the airspace above your house so you legally can't interfere with them. You think the people at Amazon haven't thought about this? That thing will be covered in cameras and microphones, you won't be able to touch it without being charged.
I thought for sure that this was a joke, or that the gif of the drone sort of....pooping out that package was fake. But I found the same gif on Amazon's PR website. This has got to be the dumbest possible way to get a package delivered...
If it did it from a bit lower altitude, it wouldn't be that bad... at least for some AA batteries. And look, the package even landed with the ⬆️⬆️ arrows the right side up! (/jk)
Does it have to drop packages from 3 meters off the ground? I'd rather it landed and gently deposit them. Even so, this won't suit all users - what if you're not in, or in an apartment? Guess it works for people with fenced back gardens. Still, its the future of delivery. These things can get work arounds.
It is the future, but not the way everyone thinks. Everyone thinks drones will be for the last mile, but the reality is they'll be for the last five metres. Amazon will have a vehicle that can drive down your road and the drone will take your package, fly out and return to the van. Each van will have a minimum of six drones and the only time the driver has to stop is when all drones are out of the vehicle. I imagine that consumers will be able to set preferences, like leave at this particular spot or only attendance required, for which it would ring the bell/phone/app of the person.
Once they sort out autonomous driving, then humans will vanish from the delivery process all together.
The first thing I thought of when seeing this picture was “my aunt has two box tortoises in her backyard, and they camouflage pretty well, what about her tortoises?”

I normally see them individually.
Laser etching looks/sounds cool (especially if you do it on the damaged looking spots for less blemishes/more likely for consumers to buy); maybe save on a little sticker. You do you, just I don't know how much packaging this really saves on, unless you are like... laser etching barcodes and branding.
