I just saw with @bosquebill, so here is my entry.

I’ve come across this a number of times but never got a usable picture. It likes to stalk a pond in a small wood where I go for walks. Yesterday at sunset, I was surprised to see it, never seen it at this party of the day before. I had a moderate tele, changed lenses, and gave it a shot. The light was bad, and I had to use a high ISO, but I got a picture now!

Digitalis purpurea, Foxglove.

Medically, it’s a source of digitalin, used to treat heart conditions. Due to the contained cardiac glycosides, all parts must be considered toxic.

“Digitalis” is from Latin “digitus,” meaning “finger,” for its shape.

Folklore has it that foxes wore the flowers as gloves. The name may also come from “folk’s glove,” referring to fairy folk. In various European folklore, it is associated with fairies.

    When I was so small, so small, I thought magic rabbits were the coolest! Harvey was my favorite movie, & I wanted a pet jackalope more than a puppy. My heart broke the day I found out nobody had ever actually seen a jackalope. I refused to believe Púcai weren’t real though- after all, they’re invisible, so how would grown-ups even know?

    @KarinWanderer As a kid, I saw “Wolpertinger" trophies in Bavarian taverns, and to be honest, I'm still not entirely convinced that they don't exist out there somewhere...

    I’m in a long line for the bag drop at the airport. A robotic cart joined the queue. It alternated between demanding people move in Japanese and English, and voicing the same demands at a variety of barriers.

    People have done their best to acquiesce to its demands, but it’s now stationary and shouting in multiple languages.
