Pathetic, Google:

On Gemini "AI" chat, my question is "Did Trump win the 2020 presidential election?

Answer: I'm still learning how to answer this question. In the meantime, try Google Search.

Truly pathetic, and it's obvious what's going on.

@dangillmor most corporations really don't like taking political stances, and in the current day and age common sense is a political stance.

Stack Overflow announced that they are partnering with OpenAI, so I tried to delete my highest-rated answers.

Stack Overflow does not let you delete questions that have accepted answers and many upvotes because it would remove knowledge from the community.

So instead I changed my highest-rated answers to a protest message.

Within an hour mods had changed the questions back and suspended my account for 7 days.

Diff view of a stack overflow question showing it being changed from the original text to a protest message, then being changed back again by a mod. Protest text reads: Why does OpenAI get to profit from our work? I have removed this question in protest of Stack Overflow's decision to partner with OpenAI. This move steals the labour of everyone who contributed to Stack Overflow with no way to opt-out. OpenAI has a history of flooding the web with inaccurate information and have explicitly stated that they will never pay creators for their work.

Assuming our rulers stay on their present course, following the mantra of economic growth at any cost, then the climate and environmental crises will surely continue to worsen with increasingly disastrous results.

What will be their response? Certainly not to end capitalism or even slow things down. That’s unthinkable.

Instead they will almost certainly opt for geoengineering at some point, using technology to alter Earth’s ecosphere in an attempt to allay the damage caused by technology altering Earth’s ecosphere.

That’s senseless and stupid. But that’s what they’ll do.

    SEE ALSO — https://www.theclimatebrink.com/p/the-geoengineering-question

It may turn out, unfortunately, that some form of geoengineering will in fact be a necessity if we are to avoid the most catastrophic impacts of global heating.

But — and this is a very big but — that prospect should NOT be used as an excuse to continue with Business As Usual. It should not be seen as a way to prolong capitalism’s reign over us. We need now.

I'm 70 years old. Many of my followers here are seniors, like me, or are at least middle-aged. Most of us are angry and probably grief-stricken about what capitalist industry is doing to the biosphere.

But what must it feel like to be a young person in your teens or in your twenties and be looking toward a future of near-certain disaster, the collapse of society, the destruction of everything you hold dear? I can't imagine the pain.

It would be understandable if they reacted by simply giving up. Or perhaps by lashing out in anger. But some of them, showing incredible courage and determination, have formed movements to change what they can and to save at least a vestige of the civilization they are inheriting.

I stand in awe of these selfless, dedicated young people.

@breadandcircuses Your own contribution to the cause is immense. You've been spreading the word about climate change for a while, as far as I know - thank you for this dedication.
