Well they may have been BORN in a different era, but if they're alive right now they're alive in the same fucking era that we are.

@Ericthebeeover2 I think that people have to want to grow and with so many of these racists/bigots they seem to think that they're perfect exactly how they are.

It is terrifying to me how demonized education is becoming.

roknrol OP ,
@roknrol@neurodifferent.me avatar

@Ericthebeeover2 I'm not sure what sorts of traumas they suffered in school, but it was enough to make them not want to learn anything more, ever.

roknrol OP ,
@roknrol@neurodifferent.me avatar

@Ericthebeeover2 I don't see media (video games, movies, TV) to be the demon that people have tried to make it out to be.

I know a handful of people that adamantly reject education. Many of them think that it's funny (my sister and her entire family fits this camp). The suggestion that they go to college is not denied because of cost - it's denied because "college doesn't teach anything I can't learn on YouTube."

Part of me wants to chalk it up to just basic human laziness, but these are people that WILL learn things that fall within their interests...they simply reject everything that's not already an interest.

I'm wondering what in the world would freak people out so much about going to their first 12 years that they would so thoroughly and soundly reject the idea of getting more education.

Like, it seems like the most basic human activity: Learning stuff.

So many people waste their entire lives not learning anything...and they'd probably be good at at least some of it.

I do think that parenting is an enormous part of it, but if we aren't going to teach parents to be parents, then the teachers need to be able to do it. The main problem with that, as I can tell, is class size. (of course, incentivizing the teachers with a living wage might help, but 30+ students per class is TOO MANY for most classes).

As to your last point, I suspect that's exactly the reason why schools aren't properly funded or managed.

Via Andrew Weissmann:

Court about to begin. The defense table, from left to right: Blanche, the defendant (ie Trump), Bove, and Necheles (notably farthest from Trump). Gaggle of photographers shoot Trump, inches from his face: he maintains an implacable and dour expression. ADA Josh Steinglass and his team now enter: Steinglass is very much the lead here.

@GottaLaff Which is unfortunate, because we need a Judge who will deal with a grown ass man throwing a toddler-like tantrump.

Heard at the Trump trial about the 2016 election this week:

Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass: “Is that true, Mr. Pecker, was that your purpose in locking up the Karen McDougal story, to influence the election?”

David Pecker from the tabloid: “Yes.”

The American voters were deceived. And it now looks a lot like the prosecution has proved election interference, which is what elevates Trump’s camouflaging his payments from a misdemeanor to a felony.

In short: It is jail time!

YouTube is a mystery sometimes.

18 days ago, I made a short, the YouTube algorithm immediately picked it up, and showed it to 8500 people.

Saturday I made another short, and about 100 people came in from Mastodon to see it, but YouTube never picked it up.

The new short is about religious voters in the US, and I wonder if that is somehow a too sensitive topic, or if I simply made a bad video.

Input is appreciated.

    @alice Always feels good to feel in demand. Could you create a "media" account or something to keep things separate?

    @roknrol@neurodifferent.me avatar

    @alice Oh that's cool...I just look like a generic white guy. People comment on my clothes or whatever, but there's never recognition behind it.

    I'm not sure how I would feel about being recognized, honestly. I bet I wouldn't care for it.

    Hi Alice,

    I'm a non-Autistic ADHDer with an Autistic family. I'm also a neuropsychologist who spends most of my time teaching other healthcare professionals how to recognize the less obvious presentations of autism. I've written two books on this topic and do a lot of talks and podcasts. Somehow I came across your research on self-identification and I'm really impressed. I just wanted to reach out to tell you that. You have done a remarkable job with a complicated topic!

    Warm regards,

    Question: do you generally prefer stickers to be paper or vinyl?

    Paper is cheaper and contains no plastic, but vinyl is sturdier (can be uv/waterproof) and can have special finishes. But of course vinyl is plastic.

    Boost appreciated as always, as well as comments if it depends (because for me it would depend lol)

    Trump picked three Supreme Court justices and now it pays off.

    Not that the supreme court is helping Trump legally, but by deciding to hear Trump's frivolous claim of having absolute immunity from crimes, they are now helping him procedurally by delaying his trial for months.

    This means the Jack Smith trial in DC, which could put Trump in prison for many years, likely will not be able to reach a verdict before the next election.

    If the US falls into autocracy, this was how it happened.
