I am an engineer that makes open source hardware projects in my spare time. You can find my github with all the projects at:

https://www.github.com/profdc9

Please let me know if you're interested in them, I wish to promote them because I hope the projects will be both practically useful and help engineering education. They use very simple "jellybean" parts mostly so they should be able to be constructed by most hobbyists with access to electronics parts stores.

I am amateur station KW4TI.

Banning masks has nothing to do with preventing crime. Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, and everyone there wears a mask regularly.

During winter, I really felt bad about the lack of weapons supplies to Ukraine. To think that we, "the free world”, should pause when helping the Ukrainian people fight their fight for freedom, really made me cringe.

But watching all the impressive deliveries from all countries this spring has been amazing. I know, this war is far from over, but if the 50+ wealthy allies keep increasing the aid, there is no way, the Russian economy can keep up.

Not in the long run.

It is a waste of time to try to refute Trump’s arguments like in a . It’s nearly impossible to identify what his arguments even are. He starts w/ & then digresses into blather.

@Nonilex I don't Biden is trying to debate him. I think he is going to try and out-Trump Trump. And I don't think it will work. He wants to make Trump look weak, pathetic, and impotent. It will have nothing to do with argument; you have to pull the kind of antics Trump would, like insulting or mocking your opponent, trying to come up with a catchy insult like "Sleepy Joe" or "Crooked Hillary." Biden had better be prepared to stoop as low as Trump, because that's the level of discourse here.

@rbreich If this debate changes the mind of a single person about whom to vote for, I will be shocked. At this point, the only eligible voters who don't know the differences between these two candidates are not going to even notice this debate or show up to the polls. This election is about turnout, not changing people's minds.

Politicians say mask bans should come back as pre-COVID, they were law since 1845.

But scientists discovered viruses in the 1890s, discovered how they worked in the mid-1900s, and discovered SARS in the 2000s.

Mask bans are outdated, anti-science laws that belong in the past.

profdc9 ,
@profdc9@mastodon.social avatar

@luckytran If they want 1845 laws, they can make do with 1845 medicine. No antibiotics, surgery done without antiseptics, no anesthesia, human waste in the water supply, no blood transfusions, no germ theory, very few vaccines, and a high mortality rate. But they won't have to wear masks.

The Biden FTC is on a roll.

It banned noncompete clauses.

It blocked the Kroger/Albertsons merger that would send grocery bills skyrocketing.

Now it's taking action against Adobe for allegedly trapping users in pricey subscriptions.

This is government working for the people.

@rbreich The calculating rich donors have to decide whether or not to accept reform, or court chaos by supporting a second Trump presidency. The rich require the rule of law to protect them; look at the oligarchs of Russia serve at Putin's whim.

Prior to 1982, the SEC considered stock buybacks to be illegal stock manipulation. But under President Reagan, stock buybacks were made legal. Now, instead of investing profits into people, big corporations use them to line the pockets of wealthy shareholders. They're a scam.

Today, Putin told the press, he would like to negotiate for peace in Ukraine… if Ukraine would please give up Crimea, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk.

What he is really saying is, now that he has been unable to conquer all these territories for 842 days, he would like Ukraine to simply lay down their arms, and just give them to him.

It really speaks volumes about Putin's complete detachment from reality, that he would make such a laughable suggestion.

profdc9 ,
@profdc9@mastodon.social avatar

@randahl I don't think Putin anticipates capitulation to his demands. This is mainly to play to a domestic audience who is looking for some evidence Putin is willing to quit before conquering all of Ukraine, which will not happen. If it is perceived that the war is interminable, then the war is either over when Putin wins or Putin is no longer in power.

Cost of extending the expiring Trump tax cuts: $4.6 trillion.

Cost of proposed additional corporate tax breaks: $1 trillion

This is why Trump and the GOP are obsessed with cutting Social Security and Medicare.

So they can justify another round of giveaways to corporate donors.

profdc9 ,
@profdc9@mastodon.social avatar

@rbreich The goal of both parties is for each to consolidate its power by enriching the respective oligarchic constituencies that support them. All a voter can do is support the party that is supported by the less objectionable oligarchs, and this seems to be the Democrats. Either way, there will be giveaways to corporate donors; or their support goes to the other party.

@GottaLaff The Christian right will then require women to be escorted in public by her husband or brother, to be barred from owning property, when widowed to be married to the brother of her husband, to wear a veil, and to bring a dowry of goats for her husband to herd. They will bring back stoning adultery and heresy. And this time, they will back their threats with weapons of mass destruction. A species can not embrace technology and superstition at the same time and survive.

@futurebird Renumeration has never been about the value of one's work. It's about one's status and ability to coerce. Did kings earn their lands that the serfs worked? Did conquerors earn the lands and spoils paid for by blood? Musk is doing what kings and conquerors have done since armies and nations have existed: taking what he can.
