Listen, if I was obscenely rich, I would not only rig an absurd and horrible contest that people would need to play to get my money after my death, but I would get it started before I died, so I could watch them play.

I’m reading a book on Thebes, and in the chapter on religion I was struck by how weird d&d is. It treats a polytheistic world in a monotheistic way.

And while it’s true that high priests of a specific cult would be focused on one god, for most people you would sacrifice or worship different gods at different times, depending on your needs at the time.

@deinol I arranged the gods like this in my campaign and my players are having a hard time wrapping their heads around it.

@robindlaws So technically it's a sugar cubewano, excellent.

@robindlaws I live on the seventh floor so normally I'd say "no"? Or are they trying to tell me something?

    @LeviKornelsen Psychological hold through religion.

I want to see your favorite fantasy and sci-fi cover art! Books, magazines, RPGs, comics, whatever!

@Tim_Eagon I've always been partial to this one of Angus McBride's, and these other two by Daniel Thorne's and Dennis Beauvais':

@Tim_Eagon McBride was a bit of an odd man out compared to other RPG artists at the time -- he would have been about 50 at the time, lived in South Africa as an immigrant, and had extensive experience for Osprey & various British educational magazines before working with I.C.E.

The neat thing about looking at all these [GURPS] JTAS and Challenge Magazine articles is seeing familiar names in the by-lines. There’s a ton of cool little adventure seeds by James “Grognardia” Maliszewski.

@LeviKornelsen Which, oddly enough, is what I like in a game.

Day 66 of : Quill remembers how to craft potions & tinctures. To help, she casts her gluph of power. She does a good job with the oak wart but had some trouble with hazel root & mud cap. Her final potency is 5 for oak wart, 2 for hazel root, & 2 for mud cap.

@SJohnRoss @ericmpaq It was Anthea Bell who came up with the English names.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthea_Bell

Really, hers are often better puns: e.g., Idéfix becomes Dogmatix, Assurancetourix becomes Cacofonix. Goscinny's names are usually non sequiturs but hers riff on the characters..

Whether or not trying to upstage the original is a cardinal sin for a translator is another question.

I'm thinking of writing this retro-futuristic techno thriller where the US manages to put people on the using only 1960s technology, former Nazi rocket scientists etc.

@nyrath @cstross @mrundkvist When my mum and I watched the movie in the theatres she asked if it was real...then we worked out that I was three weeks old when the accident happened. She was understandably too pre-occupied at the time to have been watching the news and hear about it.

Since this is year ending in "4," it's a big-deal decade anniversary for the RPG that got me into gaming, the first RPG I ever owned, the first RPG I ever GM'ed.

No, not that one. 😞 THIS one:

Forty years of MSH! May it live forever. Excelsior!
