Hamas Wants Guarantees Ceasefire Will Actually Happen, While US Says Hamas Is Rejecting the Proposal ( truthout.org )

Following the UN Security Council vote to approve a three-phase ceasefire in Gaza, U.S. officials and other international allies of Israel are cynically placing blame on Hamas for a stall in current ceasefire negotiations — even as Israel has insisted on indefinitely continuing its massacre in Gaza and Hamas has said its main...

that might be directly related to "reconstruction of Gaza" thing

Was originally on lemmy.ml but made one on beehaw because it was overloaded, after a tankie ban on lemmy.ml moved to sopuli.xyz, I also have an account on lemmynsfw for... stuff...

Yeah, I was like "there is no 'hole', is that hymen thing that thick?" then she said "it's further down"

I remember when r/natureisfuckinglit was created, it's relatively new sub, there was a cool photo on r/earthporn, some dude commented "nature is fucking lit", someone else commented there should be a sub for this and the next person created the sub

Lemmy.ml tankie censorship problem

I feel like we need to talk about Lemmy's massive tankie censorship problem. A lot of popular lemmy communities are hosted on lemmy.ml. It's been well known for a while that the admins/mods of that instance have, let's say, rather extremist and onesided political views. In short, they're what's colloquially referred to as...

@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yeah, I've been banned because I said something about Uighur genocide, on the other hand I'm wondering about dessalines' nationality and his knowledge about communism, it's easy to be communist of you only touched it online, I for example live in post communist country and remember some of it, old people are talking about it, it wasn't that good

I'd "understand" if everything would be transparent and they admitted it's tankie instance and you're banned because you don't like China but no, everything is saying their own COC

Do we want someone like that not only administrating the oldest Lemmy instance but developing the whole platform?

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yeah, they even have native word for it, I mean not even a kanji written loanword like sacca or baskettoboru

It's やきゅう, yakyū

Why doesn't youtube shut down their public web api?

so we already know that youtube doesn't like people freeloading their bandwidth using something like invidious, piped, newpipe etc. why don't they just close the public web api and require a login or something. by requiring login they can keep track of what users are watching and if a user is watching thousands of videos daily...

twitter does that, it's blocked but the embedded posts still work

Good luck with criminalizing porn

Anyway it's sickening and shocking, apparently you don't need a coup and president assassination for the Gilead to emerge

That's a mental shortcut, the birds came from dinosaurs, the birds cladistically ARE dinosaurs; birds, dinosaurs and crocodilians are archosaurs, but birds are closest dinosaurs relatives

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yup, that's what I said, crocodilians and birds

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

As for what makes some clades closer to ones than others, we know when they appeared in fossil records relative to each other

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

That's because most of what we hear about "AI" is revolving around content "creation" controversies, but these are successfully used in analyzing wide data sets for scientific purposes, like finding new foldings of proteins, diagnosing cancer, reading ancient burned scrolls via etcxrays

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

as the rest said lossless compression won't really work on media files as they're already compressed, there are probably some compression layers based on fuse you could mount over your cloud storage mount point (if it supports mounting in linux) and it'd be transparent, but in case of video files i believe your only solution is to reencode those files, handbrake is a nice GUI tool

While true, it's not like there's a monopoly on the market like in many other fields, I don't like Musk but he's a pioneer in many fields, besides SpaceX and Tesla he founded PayPal

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

Looks like a monopoly because SpaceX invented that niche and others lag behind RnD-wise, companies like Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and other companies behind the American space program are more in monopoly position and were more subsidized by the government than SpaceX ever was

Open source e reader ( lemmy.ml )

I recently got a Sony prs 600 e reader from 2009. The battery is at the end of its life (It lasts about 3 days with heavy reading, and a couple weeks without reading). No backlight, no Wi-Fi, just an SD card that I can load epub files and small PDFs. The screen is slow and the contrast isn't the best. The "touch screen" is the...

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

You're right, a lot of tankies on Lemmy, but I don't understand what's commie in open source concept, OP is right, e-readers are kinda expensive, composting to phones for example, being able to make an e-reader by yourself would be nice

Ah, the book title, to each their own, I think calling people out because book they read is kinda stupid, it's a small step from burning books

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yeah, your can easily get a ban for saying something wrong on China for example, it depends on the instance thought, anybody knows Lemmy creator's political views by the way

i remember posting in /r/boneappletea a screenshot where a well known brand made a mistake, they deleted it because it was against a rule saying there should be no identifying informations, like people could raid poor multi million brand or something, also the sub was notorious for posting speech to text errors without batting an eye

on the other hand i've been banned on lemmy twice, fist time was because my rather sexist comment, but second time was because i said something about Uighurs genocide in China, (guess what instance was that?) also both bans were issued without any warning, completely against their CoC

I bought an Asus RT-AX53U, it was the cheapest WiFi 6 router with openwrt support

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

Of course it does, anyway it's normal Linux, so it does everything desktop Linux does, you gonna be of course limited by your device hardware capabilities like RAM or storage, so maybe you won't be able to deploy a kubernetes stack on your home router but it'll be doable on a more capable device running OpenWRT like an RPi, PC or NAS;-)

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

are there any AX routers supported by DD-WRT? all routers your article suggests are AC routers, quick research show no AX routers on support lists

When I buy books I buy physical, but sometimes digital is more practical, even with small format books I struggle to read them in public transit during my work commute, with a reader like Kindle or even with a smartphone I don't have to work about my book being damaged in a bag it someone, even without a cover a reader will say least scratch a bit, on the other hand dropping a reader is another story, the screen can easily break, book won't. Also the obvious thing is you can get ebooks instantly, physical ones have to be shipped or at least brought from the store like everything physical. Another thing is WAREZ, you can get ebooks illegally, I don't condone it but it makes the access easier, sometimes it's the only way to get a given book because it's sold out or something. But I'm one of those people who don't have a problem with ebooks, on an ebook reader I see them equal with paper ones

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

Respectfully of course.

Like "Fuck you Nvidia"?

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

i heard about it almost 20 years ago, so it's basically a common knowledge

maniel ,
@maniel@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yeah, religion is the deadliest ideology, basically "that's a made-up reason we're better than you and that's why you need to die" basically an extension of conservatism
