I’m starting to realize that Mastodon may have ruined other social media for me. Just deleted Reddit - even the (relatively) low levels of dbags and other annoyances there are just more than I need in my life anymore.

Why put up with all the illiteracy, infantilism, and general idiocy when I can just enjoy myself and learn things on the Fediverse?

Gee - what could possibly be behind the strangely inflated stock price of the DJT ticker? The memiest stock that ever memed. I guess that’s one way to donate to Trump’s campaign without being limited by FEC regulations. Talk about something rotten in Denmark.

Ian, you're wrong. I watched the speech. Eric unpacks the relevant context here. It's a very odd look to be spinning for #Trump like this.

    Eric Columbus:

Wise conway thread below about Trump's "bloodbath" remarks. And per @metzgov transcription Trump said the effect on the car industry would be "the least of" the effects of the "bloodbath for the country." This is the opposite of just talking about cars.

@mastodonmigration @eilonwy @GottaLaff Which is a valid editorial decision if applied equally. The problem arises when you consider how the Times would cover it if Biden used the exact same words about Trump.

"The oldest president in history just gave the fiercest State of the Union address in history.

Joe Biden proves once again that age is nothing but a number. …

After weeks of media coverage stoking concerns about his mental acuity, Biden’s ferocious speech and gleeful, unscripted engagement with unruly Republican backbenchers undercut attempts to make his age the central issue."

Calling an election you lost “rigged” is unsubstantiated sore-loser talk regardless of party.

@pbump @lisamelton Unless she immediately provides airtight proof of election rigging, I have lost all respect for Katie Porter and think she should be removed from Congress immediately. We need to have zero tolerance for this “rigged election” bullshit going forward. We’ve had enough, and it’s time to hold elected reps to the highest standards instead of the lowest.

Italy’s far-right party proposed using AI to assign youth mandatory jobs.

“The young person will no longer be able to choose whether to work or not, but [will be] bound to accept the job offer for himself (sic), for his family and for the country, under penalty of loss of all benefits.”

@parismarx @FeralRobots What does “loss of all benefits” mean? The article didn’t discuss this. Does that mean something like free healthcare, unemployment benefits, and/or UBI? Or does it mean something else? I don’t dispute the rest of the article - it’s a decent quick overview of the tech sector’s fascist tendencies - but not sure demanding unemployed youth work a job to receive benefits is unique to fascists. Is that why the authors skipped over the benefits?
