Just a casual reminder that Germans who “didn’t bother to vote” in 1932 didn’t get a chance again until 1946, after Hitler’s death. — There’s a lesson there.

@Strandjunker Yeah, I know. But I've also seen enough good people lose to not think it's a magic wand. I thought Trump would go away last time!

Why are we talking about whether paying fast food workers a better wage will drive up the cost of a Big Mac instead of asking how much McDonald's CEO's $19.2 million salary is driving up the cost? Hello?

chicating ,

@rbreich Because CEOs would rather dine on the blood of the innocent.

UPDATE: NY Governor Kathy Hochul said on CNN last night that she is considering a ban on masks.

This is absolutely shameful! New York has suffered so much from COVID, and COVID is not over. We should be normalizing and depoliticizing masks, not banning them.

    @luckytran I'm from Arizona...we've had a lot of turns electing Governor Shitshow.
    But that's really bad. And from somebody who got the job "cleaning stuff up" and all that. argh.

    New: Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse are requesting a meeting with Chief Justice John Roberts to discuss "the Supreme Court's worsening ethics crisis" and have sent a letter imploring Roberts to "take appropriate steps" to ensure Samuel recuses himself from 2020 election and Jan. 6 cases.

    @GottaLaff do it retail-style and push him till he quits.
    If only we could cut a Justice's hours, am I right?!

    I can't believe I even have to say this, but it is not normal that the Supreme Court is taking its sweet time to decide if the president can incite an insurrection to overturn an election and maintain power. This should have been decided already. The answer is no!

    @chicating@mastodon.world avatar

    @rbreich Possibly hell no!

    The RNC and Trump campaign say they are recruiting 100,000 lawyers and volunteers to make it harder to vote and easier to cheat this November. Democracy Docket tracks and exposes the GOP's attacks on our democracy. Support it now. https://democracydocket.com/support/

    "The facts involving Trump are crystal clear, and as news people, we cannot pretend otherwise, as unpopular as that might be with a segment of our readers. There aren’t two sides to facts. People who say the earth is flat don’t get space on our platforms. If that offends them, so be it."

    @wdlindsy When I was in journalism school, the Plain Dealer was often cited as one of our country's best papers. That was a while ago, but I'm glad something is being upheld!
