You answered your own question. It means different things to different people at different times. To know what people mean you must use your basic language comprehension skills or ask them for clarification.

bear ,

No. In my culture it's expected that we get help until about age 18 and then you're on your own. It's a sink or swim strategy. In my opinion this is short-sighted and we should be investing into the success of our adult sons and daughters and working together to ensure the best outcomes possible.

Approval voting. Simplicity is essential in my opinion. You can read more about it here.

What do you think the Great Filter is?

The Great Filter is the idea that, in the development of life from the earliest stages of abiogenesis to reaching the highest levels of development on the Kardashev scale, there is a barrier to development that makes detectable extraterrestrial life exceedingly rare. The Great Filter is one possible resolution of the Fermi...

Life finds a way to end itself. There's an ongoing mass extinction event caused by humans. Completely preventable by the way. But we do not prevent it.

You can choose whatever process you like. When a market exists then you're still competing with the market. If a market doesn't exist then there's no competition. Either way it doesn't matter what process you choose.

Immigration. In 20 years Texas has changed from 70% white Americans to 50%. In 30 years all of America has changed from 80% to 60%.

Realistically you make choices and say no to many things so that you have the time and energy to spend on the few things you care more about.

Notice what's causing the stress and do something to help. Sometimes through meditation, breathing, stretching, exercise, sex, massage, good food, water, sleep, fresh air, sunlight, or some combination. In general you can change your environment or change your mind.

Health and happiness for myself and everybody here with me. I hope everyone's dreams come true and they find happiness too.

You make your life what you want. Figure out what you want, health, happiness, love, family, something, maybe all of the above. Then you go and get it. You need to do this yourself. Help yourself.

If a useful brain-computer interface was available sometimes in your lifetime (and secure and safe) would you get one?

Background to this slightly weird question: I found one of my old an English exams on science fiction and dystopian literature from the 11th grade in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany (ca. 2004) and found a similar question. The idea back then was to discuss the pro- and cons of a BCI (and I objectively did not do to well back...

bear ,

We already use them. Any interface between a brain and computer is a BCI. But as for a futuristic brain implant -- absolutely not. We need to go the opposite direction and return to nature.

Those are good behaviors regardless of whether they are considered masculine or feminine. In my mind femininity is inclusive of the strong beauty archetype. A highly capable person can be both a great leader and a great follower depending on the context.

Things will get better. It's absolutely worth it in the end. Do your best and have fun.

Do you get sick of the same songs and how do you combat it?

If I find myself overplaying certain songs, I sometimes have to force myself to take a break because when I don't, I usually end up ruining/disliking the song. I hate when this happens because perfectly good songs that I love end up irritating me because I have heard it too much. Do you stop listening to those songs or just play...

bear ,

Not really. For me it's a natural process. If I want to listen, I listen. If I don't, I don't.

I love food and home cooking. Eating out is expensive and most of the time I want to know my food doesn't have any unfamiliar ingredients.

bear ,

Absolutely. Spend enough time on the internet and you'll learn to conserve your energy

bear ,

Most things. The world is a big place and I'm better off focusing on what's important to me.

bear ,

Yes. Without the selection pressures to minimize disease, we observe more disease in the population over time. This reduces our fitness for any environment without the artificial benefit of modern medicine.

People don't want to understand because it is difficult and challenges their worldview. Is this an existential risk? Yes. Can we do anything about it? Yes.
