@philip_cardella @GottaLaff I'm hoping that Biden can retain much of the seven million vote lead he had in the last election, particularly since Trump is now convicted of crimes. As for what foreign nations do to help Trump, our intelligence services have had many years to prepare for that. We still have five months to go and I'm trying to stay optimistic-- for all our sakes.

If Trump isn't sent to prison it will send a message, loud and clear, to all who assume the presidency in the future that they are safe in breaking our laws, that they will only receive a slap on the wrist. I don't believe Judge Juan Merchan will buy into that. Expect him to sentence the former president to prison, even if its length is minimal.

@Brad_Rosenheim @aintist Merchan strikes me as a no-nonsense judge who reminds me of Judge John Sirica who conducted the Watergate trials. I think he's less concerned about the past precedent than how his actions will be judged by history. Trump has demonstrated he's incapable of remorse and reform. Merchan will take that into consideration.

My reason for moving: When Trump got in, I said to Mr. Laffy, "He'll now have the courts. We can't overcome a lot of that." This is what I was referring to:

@GottaLaff It would be good see Dems gain a large majority in the House and Senate so they can impeach justices like Alito or amend the Constitution to create term limits subject to recall for misconduct. If and when that will happen, I have no idea. If Trump is elected again I suspect never.

In recent years, our right-wing Supreme Court has demonstrated how corrupted its decisions are. If Trump is convicted and jailed I believe the SCOTUS will quickly hear his appeal and invent cause to overturn his sentence-- as they invented cause to gift the presidency to George W. Bush(v.Gore):

Yes Michael Cohen was a sleezy lawyer and a criminal, but instead of allowing that to be the elephant in the courtroom, Trump's prosecution should address his actions upfront. If Cohen shows genuine remorse for his mistakes, as serious as they were, the jury will likely recognize it and give more credence to his testimony.

This isn't business as usual. I've been observing politics for over six decades, since JFK, and so I say to you now in all seriousness that alarm bells should be ringing-- because life in America will never be the same again if Trump wins a second term. Giving control of our military to someone who previously attempted a coup of our government is just insane, as it is to allow our democracy to elect someone who's bent on destroying it. That's a lesson we should have learn from Hitler.

If President Biden appears older and more worn than Mr. Trump there is a good reason why-- he has faithfully done his job as president and senator before that, and he has endured the heartbreaking deaths of his first wife, infant daughter, and later his son. Hard work and tragedy age us. In contrast, Trump has done all things to benefit himself... including fraudulently cheating his fellow Americans and mocking the sacred laws of our land. Support self-sacrifice, not selfishness and greed.

@GottaLaff Social media isn't the toxin, only those like Elon Musk who permit toxic people to pollute it. He knowingly encourages haters who push his far right agenda. Social media is what we make of it, or silently allow others to.
