Diagnosing people you've never met is generally a bad idea.

They review hundred of hours of hidden toilet cam footage. How else would you investigate?

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

I think a better way to phrase that might be:
I'm not going to trust a cocaine addict who tells me that cocaine is a safe and healthy alternative to my morning cup of coffee. I would like to see those findings peer reviewed and replicated by people that don't have a vested interest in making access to cocaine easier.

Why do I care about what a video game youtuber thinks?

Thomas Jefferson would never roll over in his grave. He would have his slaves roll him.

Cool. I'll just go ahead and abandon my whole life to move to China.

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

who wants that?

I do. We have family that we visit a few times each year. If I leave at 2am and drive straight through, we get there in 7-8 hours. If I make the drive during the day, it takes 10-13 hours.

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

Sure. But first you need to build one that takes me there.

Some real examples that are specific to the trip I take:

There is no rail service that goes there. It would be a combo of trains and busses that takes significantly longer and costs more than the gas.

Our dog comes with us, generally isn't allowed on mass transit, and the much longer trip would stress her out if she was.

There is little to no mass transit in the town they live in to get around once we arrive so we'd end up borrowing or renting a car anyway.

With limited amounts of time off, making the trip overnight adds a full day of getting to see our family to the trip.

The only other realistic means of getting there is flying but, I enjoy driving and hate everything about air travel. It's a pretty cheap flight for one person but becomes more expensive once you add in the rest of the family and the dog can't come.

Sorry, let me rephrase for you:
I'll just go ahead and uproot my entire life to move to a country that sells Chinese cars.

I agree that paying an adult for consensual sex shouldn't be illegal but, it is. So, the "party of law and order" should be held to their own shitty standards.

I am torn because I am equally sick of remakes and reboots and excited for a Josh Gad and Mel Brooks collaboration.

‘Will I ever retire?’: millennials wonder what’s on the other side of middle age ( www.theguardian.com )

Claire*, 42, was always told: “Follow your dreams and the money will follow.” So that’s what she did. At 24, she opened a retail store with a friend in downtown Ottawa, Canada. She’d managed to save enough from a part-time government job during university to start the business without taking out a loan....

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

For the last 10 years when I've been asked about my career goals during job interviews I always respond, "I would like to retire." I then clarify that I don't mean tomorrow, next year, or even 5 years down the road. I just don't want to die a wage slave.

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

I don't say the wage slave part outright like that. I say the part about retiring with a smile like I'm joking but then use the opportunity to point out that I think about and plan for the future and that I'm financially responsible. Then I ask about the company's benefits package.

Covid made thing weird for a while but my career has had a generally upward trend. My current job is a pretty serious step up for me in both salary and benefits and has a pretty clear path for future progression. I lost out on some of the creativity that I enjoyed in prior positions but I gained more free time to engage with my hobbies.

I'd say it's been working for me but your mileage may vary based on your delivery and what kind of job you're interviewing for.

When that would happen to me while using rif to browse Reddit, I would use copy/paste to "save" what I had written while I reread the post.

Wrong, there are two of them. One always lies and the other always tells the truth.

I graduated in 2002. Based on the other responses, it seems like they started doing them shortly after that.

But, in exchange they pay to maintain it and the DoD can take it back any time they want.

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

It's so heavy that it destroys most rural roads, can't be driven across most bridges, and it's too big to maneuver safely in most urban areas. The department, aka the taxpayers, still have to foot the bill for gas, repairs, and maintenance as well as refitting it for police use. They can cost up to $70000 to refit which is already pretty damn close to the price of a fully loaded Tahoe. The department is also responsible for the cost of shipping the MRAP which can cost up to $150000 to airlift depending on the model.

There is literally no benefit to the police having these unless they regularly deal with land mines in their jurisdiction.

A semi weights 10000-25000lbs. A Maxpro weighs 28000-32000lbs.

All of this information is publicly available and easily accessible. Maybe try doing 30 seconds of research.

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

Which is higher 20000 or 28000? The trailer isn't really relevant since spreading the weight over additional axels makes it significantly less likely to damage roads.

Speaking of which, Texas roads have a single axel weight limit of 20000 lbs and a tandem axel limit of 32000 lbs. Under normal operation, a semi should be fine. A Maxpro can potentially reach the the tandem axel limit on its own and could put it's full weight on a single axle if it his a speed bump going too fast.

Also, many rural roads and smaller bridges won't accommodate a full size semi with or without a trailer. They certainly couldn't handle the even heavier Maxpro.

It's actually the name of a bluish green pigment not just a fancy work for green.

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

Got to agree with that. Also, I live close enough to several desirable vacation destinations for it to be worthwhile to go for a long weekend. It's nice to be able to book a house with a yard so my dog can come.

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

That's 1200lbs of wheat for one chicken. You've been getting ripped off.

I wish this was true. I'd use this to prevent her from ever voting in Congress again with the added bonus of getting a bunch of hand jobs.

Fun fact: this rule also applies to bagel shops (or at least the one in my neighborhood).

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

Unfortunately most American voters lack a conscience, so it’s not going to happen.

If you actually want to attract people to your cause, you may want to consider changing your tone. It could also be beneficial to mention some positive things about the candidate that you recommend instead of just bashing the current regime.

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

Oh no, you're making a difference for sure. You're absolutely pushing people AWAY from the green party.

Holy shit... Conversion Therapy for pets.

Did we just stumble on a billion dollar grift that will only harm particularly awful people?

TheLowestStone ,

Well, we're not actually going to do anything besides hang out with other people's pets then tell the owners they are "cured."

I am personally a good argument for seat belts. I nearly died in an accident because I wasn't wearing one in the back seat. Luckily, I bounced off on the driver's seat, breaking half of my ribs in the process, instead of being ejected from the car.
