I always drive at least 40mph over the limit just to be safe.

Pepsi replaced its 32oz Gatorade bottle with a 28oz for the same price.

Nabisco shrank the family size box of Wheat Thins by 12%.

General Mills shrank the family size box of Cocoa Puffs by 6%.

Frito-Lay shrank the size of a bag of Doritos by 5%.

Shrinkflation is everywhere.

@rbreich I don't have any research ready to hand to back this up, but just from my own memory, I get the distinct impression this has been going on (to some extent) since (at least) the Reagan administration. ...and then, of course, there's prices driving inflation, but wages not tracking inflation. That's a good way to hide profit-taking.

The effective federal corporate income tax rate:

1950: 50%
1990: 25%
2020: 13%

Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate.

That is how we will pay for it.

@rbreich To paraphrase the late great George Carlin, if they want to influence politics, government, and public policy, let them pay the price of admission like everybody else. He was talking about taxing churches, which I also endorse.

@rbreich Maybe I missed something, but ... it seems to me that Musk is just playing the inevitable endgame of capitalism. He found the infinite money glitch, an he's being the worst possible human he can because there are no external stressors distracting him from his basest R-Complex drives.

@rbreich I think the more pressing and important question is, "Is Donald Trump in prison, yet?"

@rbreich So... it's off to debtor's prison, then.

Trump’s new fundraising agreement with the Republican National Committee directs donations to his campaign and a PAC that pays his legal bills before the RNC gets a cut.

Who happens to be the new co-chair of the RNC? His daughter-in-law.

Folks it's always been about the grift.

@rbreich Danold Tmurp is that special kind of sociopath, who is told over and over again, "You can't do that!" and responds by doing that and saying, "Stop me. Go ahead."

Who do you trust more with TikTok — China, or American billionaires? https://robertreich.substack.com/p/who-do-you-trust-more-with-tiktok?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon

@rbreich I'd be OK with a TikTok ban. My attention span was already flagging before this "ten second video" thing took off. YouTube Shorts and Meta Reels can go away, too.
