It takes immense amounts of time and effort to bring new items like this forwards, so each item you choose to do means time and money that can't be used bringing a different policy forwards.

Based on that why should Biden waste his time developing and bringing forward policies that the Republicans are obviously going to immediately shoot down, it just prevents him from being able to work on things that might actually get passed

Strykker ,

Roscosmos hasn't innovated anything in about 2 decades

Strykker ,

Surprising keeping the cold out vs in doesn't change much. You insulate the shit out of the building to minimize unwanted transfer from outside to inside.

Strykker ,

I hear this complaint a lot about charging times, but for 99.99% of people they are never in a single day going to drive beyond their cars range, meaning even a standard level 1 slow charger over night at home can manage their entire car usage.

It's only people doing long distance road trips that have to worry, and that's by far a minimum. Instead of boosting gas cars for that we could be looking at investing in rail so people don't have to make the longer trips in a car anyway.

Strykker ,

A 120v standard Ac adapter is all you need for overnight charging, and I'm pretty sure those come with the cars.

Strykker ,

Congrats your are not the market target for EVs then, guess what that doesn't mean that the majority of the population isn't though.

Strykker ,

Just assume anyone making a post on the internet in English is American, because they have the majority of the publicly discussed issues and post most of the English content.

You'll be less confused and not lots people off by studying a "well aktchually" in where it's not needed.

Strykker ,

But that's exactly what libertarians want to do. They want the government to manage nothing and just let corps do everything with no oversight.

Strykker ,

Then how the hell did Trump win in 2016 and nearly win in 2020? He is literally antithetical to everything conservatives say they are, yet they still fucking turned out and voted for him instead of someone else.

Strykker ,

Your wording was probably a little confusing, I read "jumping on Biden" initially as in "voting / rooting for him", but you likely meant it in the context of them "questioning everything he does". Depending which one is used changes your phrasing from criticizing Biden to supporting him.

Strykker ,

Yeah but you can just rent a truck for that last 10% with the savings from not buying the truck, and still have cash left over.

Strykker ,

Sure, but we are getting to the point where 99% of truck owners do not have needs that your van or a hatchback sedan couldn't handle 90% of the time, all while using less fuel and being safer for everyone else on the roads.

And when they need to haul 1 ton of dirt they can order it with delivery in a dump truck, because you never need just 1 ton anyway.

So for the final 2-3 trips a year that actually needs a pickup they can rent for like 200 bucks total.

Biden: what would Trump have done if the Capitol riots had been led by Black Americans? ( www.theguardian.com )

Joe Biden has launched one of his most scathing attacks yet on Donald Trump’s record of racism, suggesting that the former US president would have acted differently to the January 6 2021 insurrection if was led by Black people....

Strykker ,

Someone needs to beat this into your skull, in the current us voting system not voting for Biden is the same as voting for Trump.

Which one do you want to win? Neither are great, but Trump will lead to the complete annihilation of Palestinians in Gaza.

Strykker ,

Which was largely due to the introduction of soap and hygiene practices during childbirth.

Strykker ,

Literally all of them, but look at OpenSSL for a good example.

Literally everything runs off it these days, and it's like 3 guys and a trenchcoat working on it most of the time.

It's just how open source / the industry / people are. We all have our own stuff we want to do, so as long as the stuff your using works you don't tend to care, and if it doesn't you often don't have the time or resources to do anything other than tell the owner to fix it.

Strykker ,

But it's usually produced by processing oil instead.

Strykker ,

The apples and oranges is more about someone going and eating an orange and then complaining it doesn't taste like an apple.

Like yeah it fucking doesn't it's a completely different thing.

Strykker ,

Same for all the others like coal and nuclear though. So that's a dumb distinction to try to make.

Steam is always just a transfer mechanism if it's part of the power generation

Strykker ,

I mean the main steam cycle solar plants are built in dry sunny hot regions, not exactly a great source of water, but probably not completely void of it either.

Strykker ,

Because it's a funny fucking meme my dude.

Strykker ,

Sure, but they don't consume it, and let it just boil off. They have massive refrigerant setups to bring it down to temp and keep it there.

Strykker ,

Up to that point in the war every single interaction showed that the only way to take territory from Japan was a land invasion. You couldn't bomb shell out starve them out of any of the Pacific islands, what would make anyone think you could do that too them in their homeland?

There was as far as the US was concerned no approach that ended the war without landing troops in Japan.

Strykker ,

I hope you don't go looking for it on Tuesday, cause the eclipse is on Monday the 8th

Strykker ,

The answer was in the fucking title and you still got it wrong!

Sure on a pure production based outlook ebikes would be worse since they require more material.

But e bikes allow people to go further, and encourage people to use them more often, meaning an ebike will replace more car trips than a standard bike would. This can end up offsetting the extra costs of producing the ebike in the first place.

Strykker ,

Except the typical microwave is 1000 or maybe 1200 watts, while an electric kettle is usually 1500 watts, so even if all the energy the microwave used went into the water it's still up to 50% less than what a kettle will put into the water.

Strykker ,

Go suck some more tump cock you fascist fuck

Strykker ,

There wasn't much of a real "threat", in that planes wouldn't fall out of the sky. but banking systems would probably get quite confused, and potentially lead to people being unable to access money easily until it got fixed.

Strykker ,

Yeah I'm sure the past several months of the Republicans refusing to support aid to Ukraine shows their strong support for sending aid to Ukraine.

This is being done in this Mannar because Republicans refuse to aid Ukraine without some kind of kickback

Strykker ,

Sure sure just 90+ % of them, that makes it totally cool...

Strykker ,

Well that was when they performed lithobraking with a satellite, but they also did lithobraking on purpose for several rover landings

Strykker ,

So then we should use the system that reflects the freezing point and boiling points of water at nice round values such as 0 and 100 then? Sounds like Celsius is the better system

Strykker ,

Guess what, Canada sets the freezer at -15 Celsius. The USDA just chose 0F because it's good enough and a nice easy to remember number, there is nothing special about it.

Same with all your other numbers, your just using whatever the closest even F value is that's easy to remember there's nothing special about any of them and we have equivalents in Celsius

Strykker ,

For a person / creature being in the shade will always be cooler, so a field of grass vs solar panels the panels are cooler, now a forest vs solar panels. The forest would likely be cooler, since you get the shade plus the above mentioned moisture release cooling.

Strykker ,

We don't care about other topics, the only thing that gets us going in the morning is personal media libraries and software to manage and play them!

Strykker ,

Jelly fin let's you play on mobile without paying. Plex doesn't

Strykker ,

Which is stupid anyway, rent shouldn't depend on the number of people in the unit, you are paying for the apartment/house/etc, not some goddam per person usage.

Cryptographers Just Got Closer to Enabling Fully Private Internet Searches ( www.wired.com )

" three researchers have crafted a long-sought version of private information retrieval and extended it to build a more general privacy strategy. The work, which received a Best Paper Award in June 2023 at the annual Symposium on Theory of Computing, topples a major theoretical barrier on the way to a truly private search."

Strykker ,

Once you do that though you end up telling people what you are interested in which goes against the whole purpose in the first place.

Strykker ,

Unfortunately stockholders have about as much capacity to see the consequences of their actions as a toddler does.

They don't care that 5 or even 2 years from now their cuts will mean planes falling out of the sky, they just see profits go up next month.
