My get-up-and-go has got up and gone. My VIC (Very Important Computer) has decided to fall down overnight and, despite having some top engineer type blokes on the scene, has refused to play nicely this morning. <sigh> Just what I didn't need. I was hoping to get outside for a bit of pleasant weather later today but that plan withered along with VIC.

    Shining Sky

03:30 on an August morning, and insomnia had taken over again.

Through the bathroom skylight I could see something strange above us, so I fetched my camera quietly so that I didn't wake anyone, and opened the blinds in an empty room.

It was the best display of cloud I've ever seen in my almost 70 years.

Then I woke my partner so he didn't miss it!

Polar stratospheric or nacreous clouds last Christmas.
Due to their altitude of 15,000–25,000 m (49,000–82,000 ft) and the curvature of the Earth's surface, these clouds shine brightly before dawn or after dusk. Consisting of ice crystals, these form below −78°C (−108°F) and are now more common outside of the polar regions due to global warming.

These attempts seemed to fail as most of the animals couldn't tolerate the harsh weather conditions and limited food supply and they were assumed extinct, until a herd of roughly 100 was spotted in the east.
