Right. The way you know modern economics is for the most part a sham is its complete silence on allowing dragon's to hoard mountains of wealth and the damage this does to an economy.

While this is neat, the person who cares about this is going to keep their car longer than 5 years.

My credit card offers 0% interest on terms 3-12 months with any purchase over $75. You also often get offers like this at checkout for most online purchases these days. I would hope that's where most of this is coming from.

They're a "good deal."

The catch is budgeting for this. It's very easy to have these little purchases snowball on you if you do it for literally everything like is being pushed by creditors. If you don't take the full amount of the purchases out of your budget, and then spend that extra cash, then all of a sudden next month when you've got a $200 payment due on groceries and your Amazon purchase, you're short. Then you can't pay your credit card in full, and have to roll over the balance and start paying interest. That's the game they're playing here.

Do this over several months and the payments can really add up quickly. If you don't have an actual budget process, you can get yourself in a bind really quickly.

He Made a PowerPoint on Mothers Starving in Gaza. Then He Lost His Government Job. ( theintercept.com )

Alexander Smith’s PowerPoint presentation doesn’t appear designed to court controversy. The slides, focused on declining maternal health in Gaza, cite public health data from the United Nations and World Health Organization. His employer, the U.S. Agency for International Development, had selected him to share it at the...

It should be noted that this shift has happened in the last 30 years or so. Before that civil servants were the norm and contractors the exception. Civil service used to be a very good job that had some of the best benefits you could find, including some of the last remaining pension programs. You could live a very decent middle class life being a civil servant. Contractors are no cheaper for the government but it does move the liability from them to a 3rd party private employer. And now all the money goes to the business men who get the contracts and pay their employees a pittance with nearly no benefits.

37 is 98.6F. It's the human body temperature.

We already had leaded smog for decades when it was a gasoline additive. It correlates with a lot of the heightened violence in the 80s and could possibly explain boomerism.

Secret Hamas Files Show How It Spied on Everyday Palestinians ( www.nytimes.com )

The Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has for years overseen a secret police force in Gaza that conducted surveillance on everyday Palestinians and built files on young people, journalists and those who questioned the government, according to intelligence officials and a trove of internal documents reviewed by The New York Times....

Rookwood ,

Everyday Palestinians? What genius propagandist came up with that one? Israel doesn't seem to make the distinction.

Rookwood ,

Yes but our current society vests power in the corporation doing the killing. It's a problem as old as civilization, but one we still haven't solved. The problem is that these institutions and the technology they wield has never been greater.

Rookwood ,

Yeah I don't think this is a "free" country anymore.

From the top of the Louisiana state capital building it looks like Mordor. It's surrounded by oil refineries spewing dark clouds into the sky.

Rookwood ,

Octopodomorphs if you want to be inclusive.

Rookwood ,

Yeah the spin is bullshit but this is expected in an economy with massive inequality. As the scraps left over by the elite shrink, you can be doing relatively well compared to most others, but still living on the edge.

Baldwin was the primary producer on the film and the set conditions had had numerous safety issues up until this point including 3 other firearm misfires. There was a documented safety issue on this set and while Gutierrez-Reed was part of it, the showrunners clearly were too by not taking steps to address it before the tragedy happened.

We had a strong candidate in 2016 and the DNC literally committed fraud to deny him a nomination.

Rookwood ,

Ok, I've heard of Newsom and I know he's a California Dem which is literally the last thing anyone in the country outside of California wants. I've never heard of Whitmer. Out of touch media propaganda pushing neolib candidates again. People want true progressives.

Obama was generally pretty terrible. Obamacare was a disaster and about the only good policies he had were around car emissions, which were significant but still. If you factor in the amount of political capital he had in 2009 it's sad really.

Rookwood ,

None of those things are the responsibility of the President.

Rookwood ,

He's been alright. I'm a strident leftist. The cynical part of me says his second term will be significantly less alright once he's not working for re-election. But he won't be worse than Trump.

Rookwood ,

I don't think Biden has links to any of the defense contractors profiting from our proxy wars. This isn't a Haliburton situation. And he's been reasonably tough on Israel. There's a reason it's Bernard Sanders who is the only one who can be really tough on them in Washington.

Rookwood ,

Remember when "he did that"?

Rookwood ,

He's the best president since Jimmy Carter.

Rookwood ,

I dunno. Maybe the hood got some infrastructure. Probably not but they came closer than any time since the 70s.

Perpetuates the false dichotomy of a linear political spectrum of either liberal or conservative and that in and of itself is one of the reasons for these trends. Liberalism has nothing to offer men. Leftism does.

You might as well be asking men how much they are willing to sacrifice for others vs. look after their own interests. When the inequality gap widens and the majority live below average economically, don't you think people will tend to become more selfish? That's all these charts show.

Conservatism is essentially synonymous with patriarchy and on a very shallow level, it's easy to see how men would choose that over the status quo. That will surely be better for men than this slow attrition of status that comes with ever increasing wealth concentration. This isn't true but it is an obvious conclusion.

The real question, which this survey completely ignores, conveniently, is what we should all be doing together to better the status quo for all. Because I believe almost everyone except a small and shrinking fraction agrees that current trends are not working for anyone.

Rookwood ,

What is a liberal space for men? That means nothing.

Rookwood ,

Why would you intentionally look at this complex situation in 1 dimension. That dimension being the most overplayed talked about dimension because it creates conflict between groups based on identities. Instead of looking at the actual problem that the dimension completely ignores.

Rookwood ,

Sad thing is the economy outside of the inflation is really strong. Most Americans just don't see any benefit from a strong economy anymore.

Rookwood ,

Trump will never have the political capital to do anything with Alaska. It's just not on the table, even for him, regardless of the lemmings he has following him. He will have political capital to withdraw from Ukraine and cede that to Russia however and that's all Putin could ask for.

Putin is just trying to create a distraction as always.

A federal judge has gone to great lengths to make clear Trump really did rape E. Jean Carroll ( www.motherjones.com )

District Judge Lewis Kaplan has said it multiple times: Donald Trump raped E. Jean Carroll in 1996. Kaplan wrote it in May 2023, when he presided over one of the trials against Trump. And he reminded jurors of the rape this week, during the latest proceedings in the multi-layered, winding rape and defamation cases brought...

Don't forget our rapey Supreme Court Justices that serve for life and take bribes with no consequence!

The thing is, when you allow the single opposing party in our system to run against a literal Nazi party, no one wins. Except the wealthy of course.

Alex Jones is profiting from his new game on Steam — while refusing to pay the Sandy Hook families he defamed ( www.mediamatters.org )

Following his trial for defamation of the families of the children and school staff killed in the Sandy Hook massacre, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is using Valve Corp.’s Steam, the world’s largest digital distribution platform for PC games, to sell an Infowars-themed video game. Jones claims to have earned hundreds of...

That's how you create a martyr, galvanize a movement, and create mass condemnation against whatever cause you stand for.

I did some research on EBT programs in some of these states in college. They are all overrun with fraud. The states run these programs in the most half-ass way possible. Most of the funds get sold on the street for pennies on the dollar. Not to mention, that most of the people receiving the benefits in these states live in food deserts with no public transport where they don't even have a quality place to use the funds. The program is generally a fucking disaster and the leaders in these states have no interest in making it better. More desperate workers to exploit for their wealthy donors.
