How do I download a list of all accounts that follow mine?

That does not seem to be functionality offered by the export function of Mastodon, where I expected this.

I found a list in my profile, but that's paginated. Do I need to rig up a script to defeat the pagination? Or is there an easier way?

@FediTips @dj3ei you can do it within the same server too, it's somewhat common for people on our server to change callsign and also change username using this process.

@FediTips @dj3ei two main reasons:

  1. upgraded license. Many countries have basic, intermediate, and full license which require increasing skills/tests. It's common for someone to upgrade and get a new callsign for the new license class.

  2. moving. Your callsign is specific to the country issuing it, so if you move to a different country and get a new license you might also want to change username.

I see many British posts criticising the publicly funded National Healthcare System (NHS), and I fully understand how hospitals etc. are crucial to any society.

What I do not get is, why the people of Britain pay a basic income tax of just 20 percent, and then still seem surprised there is not enough money to finance proper healthcare. Just for comparison, the lowest income tax rate in Denmark is 37 percent, with many citizens paying up to 53 percent.

I am genuinely interested in knowing more.

@randahl I might be missing a reply that explains more, but the 20% is only one tax.
Income tax is between 0% and 45% depending on income, you pay that percent on income over each threshold

Plus we also pay national insurance (which is a tax) which is another up to 8%
Employers also pay national insurance

We pay 20% vat on almost everything we buy with the money left

@randahl but yes, in short, given taxes pay for stuff we all want and need (NHS, schools, roads, civil servants who actually make it all work, etc.) I'd pay more.

I'd be interested in views on whether the July GE, proroguing UK Parliament, and 'purdah' rules for the Civil Service and Ministers will put a halt to the Tory 'culture wars' motivated consultations on:

  • England & Wales (statutory) schools guidance on sex education - aka Section 28 reprise
  • England & Wales (non-statutory) guidance on treatment of trans kids in schools

These are not Bills, so thoughts appreciated!

@Natasha_Jay keep an eye on https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/election-guidance-for-civil-servants something specific should appear soon (depending on how much notice the cabinet office had)
There is guidance from 2019 which will be generally the same I expect.
I'd expect any consultations to be paused or at least the results won't be looked at until after.

PS. It's generally not called purdah anymore, what with the sexist (or at least culturally different) origins of the word.

@M0YNG Question for you, is there any way to see responses from people on mastodon.social? I understand why they were blocked, and I'm not asking to unblock - but I also know not everyone is going to be a spammy-spambot and I think I've messed a few good responses to some of posts in the past.
So I figured I'd ask?

If you want to invite someone to join your server on Mastodon, there's a built-in invitation system you can use:

  1. Log in on your server’s website or the web app
  2. Click on ⚙️ Preferences
  3. Click on "Invite people" at the left of the screen (if you’re on the mobile website click ☰ in the top right and then "Invite people")
  4. Choose the settings you want for your invitation link and then click Generate

Admins often allow invitations to work even if they've closed public signups.

@FediTips @mrdk it also circumvents any approval system your admin has for new accounts, so it's best to be judicious about how you set up and share the codes, I.e. if the server has approvals don't create an infinite unlimited invite and share it indiscriminately

@tf @CelloMomOnCars I have a heat pump. It costs less to run than gas (for the same amount of heat in the house/water) so the basics maths works out = even if my house wasn't well insulated, and thus needed more energy to heat, it would cost less to heat with a heat pump than my gas boiler used to.

Yes, electricity is too expensive, especially when it's coming from renewables. But if you have a smart metre there are loads if tariffs that track the grid cost which is lower when greener.

Custom emoji are added to Mastodon etc by a server's admin. Anyone can see them from other servers, but only people on that server can use them.

For example :amiga: is a custom emoji.

To see your server's custom emoji, click the 🙂 icon. (On mobile apps this is within the app itself, standard emoji are accessed via the on-screen keyboard.)

Any image or animation can be a custom emoji, ask your server's admin if you have a suggestion.

@dj3ei @FediTips depends what keyboard you have.
For me I can press and hold enter and a have the option of face or clipboard, selecting the face turn the entire keyboard into an emoji picker.
So, check how to do that with your preferred keyboard 😁
