I see many British posts criticising the publicly funded National Healthcare System (NHS), and I fully understand how hospitals etc. are crucial to any society.

What I do not get is, why the people of Britain pay a basic income tax of just 20 percent, and then still seem surprised there is not enough money to finance proper healthcare. Just for comparison, the lowest income tax rate in Denmark is 37 percent, with many citizens paying up to 53 percent.

I am genuinely interested in knowing more.
