Chinese space firm unintentionally launches its new rocket ( arstechnica.com )

The rocket was undergoing a static fire test of the stage, in which a vehicle is clamped to a test stand while its engines are ignited, when the booster broke free. According to a statement from the company, the rocket was not sufficiently clamped down and blasted off from the test stand "due to a structural failure."...

I liked Fusion 360, I like Onshape - but I'd rather like something that I won't lose over the whims of one company. So, what?

I am not a design draftsman, I'm not an engineer. My workflow is usually: I put something on the scanner, load the calibrated scan, trace the outline, throw a few sketches on various planes in there, round a few edges, print it and I'm done....

I can assure you, it does not.

Do not switch to Linux and expect this project to save you, it is NOT beginner friendly.

It's great, and I'm sure someone smarter than me could probably get it working, but personally, I failed miserably and switched to OnShape.

Recently found out about https://elan.school/ which ended up being run by ex "students." It's not the same thing, but there are parallels. Conversion therapy is essentially brainwashing at it's core, and I find it fascinating (in a horrifying, train crash, can't look away, kind of way) that in both cases, ex members become involved in perpetuating the horror.

Did you even read the article? That's literally what they're calling for. The removal of subsidies.

As for everyone needing to pitch in, just no. The vast majority of emissions come from sources outside public control. The "everyone needs to pitch in" and "watch your personal carbon footprint" crap is just effective marketing from BP.

Not saying cutting down personal emissions is bad, every little helps...

but it's not a solution. We need to be holding the big emmiters accountable.

The only realistic way to doing that is through inconvenient protests like blocking roads and making sure we can't be ignored. How else do you force governments to turn on their benefactors?

It's been over 50 years now, and we've seen very little real movement on this. it's been mostly token and empty gestures, and pandering. It's time we stepped up our game.

But here's rabbit hole for anyone interested. That brand name being synonymous with the product thing is actually fairly regional.

We just call them tissues here. I think you can get Kleenex brand here, but I don't think anybody cares about the brand of tissue. There's a particular kind that has some kind of aloe Vera extract which is all I'll use if I'm sick, but I don't even know what brand they are.

On the flip side, we call marker pens Biros, and where I grew up we called them Khokis

Youtube Shorts is the absolute worst for this. Just recently it's massively trying to push transphobic BS at me, and I cannot figure out why. I dislike, report and "do not recommend this channel" every time, and it just keeps shoving more at me. I got a fucking racist church sermon this morning. it's broken!

Misinformation and hatespeech mostly. They have some crazy, false pseudoscience to back their "opinions" and they express them violently. Like it or not, these videos "promote hatred against a protected group" and are expressly against youtube TOS. Reporting them is 100% appropriate.
