I'm not sure but the mandatory arbitration lindell himself put in said to pay the guy, so it was as rigged as lindell could get it without it being illegal, and they still felt it was well-proven, and lindell should pay.

Khanzarate ,

I don't think its that rare, but its not common. Usually it means that the client is breaching their agreement. Often that breach is in the form of they lied to the lawyer. Lawyers have confidentiality, so the only reasons to lie are external to the case itself.

Could also mean Lindell stopped paying them, probably for money troubles.

Khanzarate ,

Most likely.

If so, he has won the stupid prize for playing a stupid game.

Khanzarate ,

Seems solid.

It doesn't change a ton, but the point was basically them putting their money where their mouth is and saying "now we can't sell out like everything else."

If you liked them before, this is great. It means google or whoever literally can't buy them out, it's not about the money. If you were iffy already because they're not FOSS or whatever other reason, this doesn't change that, either, for better or worse

Khanzarate ,

Nah they're a single molecule. While they do have a mechanism to "reproduce", they cannot react to stimuli of any kind, or evolve. Of the 7 commonly accepted traits of life, viruses have 5-6 depending on where you stand with them not being able to reproduce on their own. (In comparison, while a tapeworm or other parasite might need a host, they bring their reproductive equipment with them).

Prions have 1 of those traits. They can't regulate an internal environment as they cannot have one, they lack any kind of organizational trait, they have no metabolism (the other one viruses lack), they do not grow, they don't adapt to their environment, and they do not respond to stimuli.

A digital thermometer has organization and responds to stimuli, so it's more alive than a prion.

Khanzarate ,

Interesting.

The paper indicates the forms are specifically limited, in mice there were 15 specific forms they could take.

But still, they evolve between the forms, so yeah, they are equally alive as a digital thermometer. Now they just need to get their act together to beat a tamagotchi.

Khanzarate ,

It's not legal anymore but that doesn't mean you'll get caught

Khanzarate ,

That's normal.

My dad got sentenced to jail for 4 months and he asked the judge if he could do it starting November because his job was seasonal and the judge said sure, gave him an exact date.

Its weird, but for once this isn't a "rich people ignore the rules everyone else has to follow" thing.

Khanzarate ,

Oh. Well never mind then, the rich suck here too

Khanzarate ,

Nah.

That one was dinosaurs changed gender to male, citing the frog DNA they completed the chain with as having that potential.

So what was supposed to be an all-female park to prevent reproduction became co-ed and then nature happened.

Khanzarate ,

The correct answer is to find someone who isn't facing towards you and stare at their back.

Alternatively, if you put your hand on your chin like you're thinking of something, then you can stare at your food while looking like you're thinking, instead of like you're sad.

If the security camera has alerts like a decent baby monitor, then I see no need to change.

If you already intend to have security cameras, being able to have one that works as a baby monitor but is completely integrated into a real security system just seems like the best of both worlds.

If you currently use the camera to spot check your baby, with no real alert system for issues, then I'd jump straight to a security system that's capable of that to reduce price over time.

I had a security camera with a built in mic, a cheaper one, and besides getting some false positives, it worked perfectly until my kid didn't need one anymore. I got an alert on their app when it detected sound and I opened the camera, it wasn't straight audio, but all I needed was a notification to check it myself.

Khanzarate ,

While atheist myself, there's a fairly obvious reply.

God had a plan, and look where the religion is now, so that plan obviously worked.

Khanzarate ,

Definitely are.

In a way it makes sense because the industry loves its acronyms and you'll be using them.

On the other hand, I have the ability to search. I'm an IT professional, I will have a computer. Let me let the computer do the lookup. Its the old "you won't have a calculator with you all the time" argument that was dated when my teachers told it to me.

Khanzarate ,

It's because they don't see them as people, they see them as violent criminals that the world would be better off without.

If you step into their shoes for a minute, and one of the criminals you just successfully took off of the streets said they can't breathe, your first thought might be "good. Maybe that'll teach you a lesson about doing crimes in my neighborhood." Your second might be "I wish I could shoot you right now and get this over with, but maybe I'll get lucky and I can say I didn't hear you."

Note that the second one is inherently a stupid thought, there's body cams. That kind of logic didn't stop my 5-year-old from telling me she cleaned her room when I could easily check and find out she didn't, and it won't stop cops from fantasizing about everything working out here.

That's exactly why they do things that way. They're living out a fantasy world where there are no real rules and there are no consequences, and they have to live a balancing act between indulging in that and dealing with reality. Sometimes cops fail to balance that, and that's what we see here.

As for who trains them, it's their fellow cops. This isn't a bunch of individual fantasies, these men work and train and talk together about how it'd be so much better if they had less restrictions and just talk about that hypothetical world. New cops who have any kind of racism or similar "My group is best" can join the conversation and add in their own unique version to the group fantasy. New cops who aren't already racist, though, won't hear blatant racism. No, they will just hear about crime stats and reoffending rates, about cops that died trying to deal with all the supposed crime, and about how stopping them is justice and will help everyone, not just cops. In time they'll share the group fantasy, too, and stop seeing their victims as people. Occasionally someone just doesn't join in the fantasy and they get bullied until they quit.

This is why the easiest way to move forward from this kind of thing is to gut the police departments and start over, or we at least need bodycams that can't be turned off so easily.

Khanzarate ,

Thing is everyone has one of those.

Compare it to non-sentience, sentience, and sapience, to properly anthropomorphize it.

Khanzarate ,

Yeah but no one just has a kingdom or phylum.

Every living creature gets an entry from domain to species.

Celestial bodies aren't a hierarchy, a planet isn't also a dwarf planet or an asteroid.

Khanzarate ,

I've hung out with a bunch of Mormons and while they personally felt it was weird now, because they have grown up in a monogamous nation, the church itself would definitely gear up to switch back, if it was legal.

That would be a process, though. They are currently taught that it is morally fine, but following the laws of the land is important, and basically treat it like part of their history. On an individual level, the ones I know seemed fine with that, even those that had an active role in the church.

Khanzarate ,

Yeah I agree. Religions have bonus rules related to that, but consent makes it fine, there's no actual ick there innately. There's plenty of room for a religion to make it creepy and not OK, but that's not fundamentally tied to polygamy.

Khanzarate ,

I have not vetted this, but looking into the issue lead me here https://zapier.com/blog/automatically-copy-events-from-one-google-calendar-to-another/

If it works as claimed, it should solve your sync issue completely.

Khanzarate ,

Which is why the deLorean was an amazing time machine, obviously.

Khanzarate ,

I regularly send emails to spam that say something along the lines of "Hey, you have free dominos" because I could redeem 20 points for a free ranch dressing. I also get emails about whatever deal they decide to have that week.

I can't fix that cause I need 60 for the pizza, the 20 is gonna sit idle.

Also while I'm bringing it up, 20 for a sauce? Hell no. 10 would be too high.

But yeah, they're annoying, but within reason for a rewards program, I do get something from this.

The Geneva convention doesn't apply to your own citizens, just to war. The US made sure they had that exception in hand

When they formally banned tear gasses (including this specific one) in 1993, since the Geneva convention only had a loose definition, the US again reserved an exception for domestic use.

So yes. The US has promised they wouldn't use tear gas against any other country because that's inhumane and too horrible, regardless of the reason for war. But it's fine if they use it on protestors. That's totally fine, they shouldn't have gotten too rowdy.

Khanzarate ,

Nah if you look closely there are actually connections between the lines. It doesn't just have the same amount of lines as minimum, it does actually say it. Look at the 2nd through 4th lines near where they almost come together near the top. 2 and 3 are barely connected, but 4 isn't.

My pi 3 has struggled with some particular codecs or large (greater than 5 hours) videos. I'm not proficient enough to say that it wasn't my fault in some way, some config option, but it was a near thing, regardless. A pi 4 or 5 should do it flawlessly, and my pi 3 works more reliably than my roku, even with that flaw.

WiFi, as long as your router isn't ancient, will be more than enough. Latency isn't a factor, and you can get HD streaming at well under 100 Mbps, the upper limit of most routers. My router, in another room with walls from an old house that destroy my signal, still gives me about 20, which is enough for 1080p.

I will say a pi 3 feels fairly laggy just using it to browse online. It does much better as a streaming box. The pi 5 I just got yesterday is much snappier, feels great to use. The 4gb model is 60$ right now, although I got the 8gb model.

All this was on default raspberry pi OS with kodi installed as an app. Very little to set up besides getting the media itself shared in your preferred way.

I'm sure all the good ones quit and he uses spray tan on the recommendation of someone who's business card says "tarot reading/tanning specialist/crystal healer/hair stylist".

Khanzarate ,

Do you think they won't trash biden if we don't protest?

Do you think they wouldn't say he couldn't win against trump?

If the GOP saying biden was unpopular is gonna change someone's vote, they'll say it whether its true or not, so that's no excuse to vote against biden in the election that's nothing but symbolic.

Best argument is that that 32 trillion is in fact the total cost over a number of years, not the difference between current system and medicare for all. Medicare for all as suggested then saves money, around 5 trillion, from admin costs and being in a better negotiating position for drugs.

Trump's lawyers seek to suspend $83M defamation verdict, citing 'strong probability' it won't stand ( apnews.com )

Donald Trump’s lawyers asked a New York judge Friday to suspend an $83.3 million defamation verdict against the former president, saying there was a “strong probability” that it would be reduced on appeal, if not eliminated....

Khanzarate ,

She, through her lawyer, already announced they intend to, but as of earlier this week her lawyer said there wasn't quite enough as of yet.

Trump obviously won't leave it alone, though, so knowing her lawyer is looking for it means the next lawsuit is pending.

Khanzarate ,

84K that isn't going to go into a superPAC, to another candidate, to the RNC, or get spent to campaign for trump.

Khanzarate ,

I swear most of them must be deeply closeted and repressed for that to seem rational. They think the children can be tempted to gayness because they know, deep down, that they could be tempted.

Khanzarate ,

It's not even a con, his daughter said that's exactly the plan.

Weirdly, they panic over a con when this is literally the game plan.

Khanzarate ,

The bug report also listed mitigation steps including turning off discovery, so it seems to me that if you enable the insecure method, you can just leave discovery off by default, and manually turn it on briefly to pair a new device, then tirn discovery back off.

Khanzarate ,

Sounds like a great argument for the actor first receiving a gun where the hammer is not pulled back.

If you get the gun in a state where safety checks cannot be done safely, someone has fucked up.

It's far better for the actor to know how to cock a hammer, have them go through the safety checks to make sure everything checks out, and then cock the hammer.

Basic gun safety involves handling guns as if they were loaded, so a gun should only be passed to someone without the hammer cocked and also with the safety on, because the gun will be assumed to be loaded by whoever receives it, and handing someone a gun that's loaded with the hammer cocked is a monumentally stupid idea.

True Polymorph is the easiest if we just wanna accrue wealth quickly

Buy some live feeder mice (a small animal that doesn't involve killing someone's pet) and transform them into jewelry. True Polymorph has none of the restrictions of Fabricate, so we can create fine jewelry without skill. Turn a mouse into a gold ring or necklace, with a large gemstone embedded into it. Sell it at a pawn shop. Repeat, use different pawn shops, and use Dominate Person with Modify Memory afterwards if theres some law about needing an ID. The dominated person can use theirs, and then you remove the interaction from their memories.

Sell fine jewelry made from mice all you want. Use that cash to buy cows or other massive animals, turn them into gold. We don't have to worry about how to pass the gold off though, the goal was to accumulate wealth. Use Fabricate to make the cow-gold into rough coins, build a secret dragon's den.

Of course, if we're willing to be a little less subtle, True Polymorph is also great for doing some light faith healing, restoring blindness due to injury by transforming them into another person that's basically identical, or we could make people look like their ideal selves. Not in the bounds of the question though.
