Another day, another apology from me for staying offline a lot and not replying to you.

I'm still sloooowwwly improving, but weak and still feeling that anxiety thing.

It'll all pass, but in the meantime, hi and bye.

Tons to do to settle in here, and no energy.

Hugs to all.

The thing about LLMs/AI that confuses me so much is how is it that these multi-trillion dollar tech companies can't come up with like a single good use case for their technologies.

If my friend came up to me and pitched me on something like Microsoft Recall, LinkedIn AI post summary, or Instagram Search Chatbot, I'd ask if they were dropped on their head as a child.

@Npars01 @malwaretech Note to future generations…. This is why you keep taxes on the wealthy punishingly high… because the default will always lead down the road to fascism, and that road is paved with insatiable greed.

Would-be buyers snub company as 's reputation dips

“The ranks of would-be Tesla buyers in the United States are shrinking, according to a survey by market intelligence firm Caliber, which attributed the drop in part to CEO Elon Musk's polarizing persona.”

JustinDerrick ,

@GottaLaff I tell everyone I know to avoid purchasing a Tesla for two reasons:

  1. The after-sale service is terminally putrid. I've had to fight to get major KNOWN issues repaired, and the service centre I bought my car from didn't warn me that I needed an alignment -- burning through the inside edge of 8 tires (winter & summer) after 25k kms each - about a third of their expected lifetime... At a cost of nearly $5k CAD.

  2. I regret contributing to/enabling Space Karen's fascist lunacy.

JustinDerrick ,
@JustinDerrick@mstdn.ca avatar

@GottaLaff Oh, and I made the mistake of purchasing 'Full Self Drive' -- a feature that has been repeatedly delayed for 4 years... The current version drives like a drunk 14 year old that has only ever driven in video games...

Having said that, the car itself is nice. However, I'd never have purchased it, knowing what I know now.

JustinDerrick ,
@JustinDerrick@mstdn.ca avatar

@GottaLaff @voron The article mentions the half-shafts -- that's the item I had to return to the service centre three times for -- the last time insisting on being in the car with the tech, because "No fault found" on the two prior visits was a pile of 💩. The car shook heavily under even modest acceleration. I have no doubt that the vibration, over time, would have led to a more serious failure.

Hey New York Times! Is this maybe part of All The News That's Fit To Print? Or, nah, a presidential candidate threatening violent civil war is just too boring for you? Asking for 300 million friends.

TOP ARIZONA REPUBLICAN TELLS WOMEN TO PUT AN ASPIRIN ‘BETWEEN YOUR KNEES’

@lolgop These sound suspiciously like the same people who tell women to ‘submit to their husbands’ — but also miraculously don’t have 16 children of their own. Huh.

They’re frustrated and miserable and want everyone else to suffer with them.

@WecanbeGyros Yeah, that’s not suspicious at all. Mitch makes a speech that goes against the GOP party line yesterday (which co-incidentally would have provided aid to Taiwan), and today news that his sister in law is dead.

I mean, I’m not into conspiracy theories, but China has a long history of threatening citizens living overseas by mentioning their loved ones still in China.

They’re also closely aligned with Russia, which benefits from the GOPs obstruction of progress.

You’ve probably already heard the very bad — but completely expected — news that we have just completed our first 12-month span with global temperatures more than 1.5°C above the pre-industrial average.

See -- https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-68110310

However, according to the IPCC, this does not mean that the goal of the Paris agreement is in tatters. According to them, 1.5C will have to be exceeded over a span of 20 to 30 years (!) before they will declare the target missed.

Come on, give me a break. Do you think we’re idiots? You expect us to fall for that?

If we continue on with Business As Usual for another 20 years, the planet will heat up even more, probably over 2C if not higher.

It’s time to stop the lying. Stop covering up for capitalism. And stop drilling for more oil and more gas to burn.

I’m in a long line for the bag drop at the airport. A robotic cart joined the queue. It alternated between demanding people move in Japanese and English, and voicing the same demands at a variety of barriers.

People have done their best to acquiesce to its demands, but it’s now stationary and shouting in multiple languages.
